Hello,

I was thinking of using some Justicia pectoralis in my changa blend...
Mention of this herb is made in the changa-wiki as a possible ingredient, but some research brought to light that this herb contains coumarin...

http://www.sciencelab.com/msds.php?msdsId=9923563

Given its carcinogenic properties (I read somewhere that it's especially carcinogenic to the lungs) I am wondering if, and if so to what extent, this is a safe product to smoke...

If it would be indeed ill-advised to add this to a changa blend, perhaps removing it from the ingredients list in the changa-wiki might not be the worst of ideas...

Mind you, I am very aware that any intoxication requires the ingestion, inhalation, insufflation or what not of toxins, so I am not against them per se, but in this case some form of risk assessment might be in order, which I, unfortunately, am not well-informed enough for... Especially since, to my knowledge, no psychedelic effects should be expected from this substance...

Any help?

I am not completely confident regarding the correctness of my interpretation of the msds, but looking at the melting and flash points I would think that Justicia pectoralis is a no-no...
If I am wrong about this, please feel free to educate me...

Doesnt mullein contain coumarin... it has lung healing propriety..

Any smoking of plants will have mutagen faculty, lung are meant to adsorb the atmosphere not smoke, but nevertheless i enjoy breathing smoke so do as you will, even non-smoker die and so will I.

When scientists take concentrated doses of a single chemical found in a plant, inject it into rats, and observe the rats developing tumors, it doesn't mean the plant isn't safe to use or make good medicine.

This kind of reasoning has opened the door to government regulation of herbal medicine in the United States...wonderful healing plants like comfrey can no longer be purchased at your local health food store. Coumarin does indeed have several medicinal uses (including the treatment of asthma), and it is also found in foods like apricots.

Justicia Pectoralis has a solid history of traditional use, which doesn't necessarily mean it's "safe", but is a pretty good indicator. Doing your research and using your own intuition on how this plant calls to you oughta give good results.
