HELLO! How about this…. Instead of having your spice precip out of the naphtha, how about pulling spice with the naphtha solvent, then adding some water to the naphtha. Put that in the freezer and let it freeze. Will the spice migrate or crash out of the naphtha and in to the water? You can then pour out the naphtha, leaving behind frozen water with spice in it, and let the water evaporate.

The reason I thought of this is because I no longer have access to pure naphtha, so I have to use stuff which, in the past, has resulted in spice that had a chemical smell. I figure this may avoid the spice from mixing with whatever other chemicals are in the naphtha. What do you think?

Depends on which one freezes faster: the water or the spice. Try it and let us know.

the crystals will probably stay floating or stuck on the surface of the water/iceI think.

If your naphtha isn't clean, use another solvent. There are so many methods out there, you can do the hippie salad oil tek with sunflower oil, or do an alcohol-sodiumcarb-vinegar, extraction, etc.

well, i already have extracted spice. i precipitated it using sodium carb in water. the problem is that it doesn't vap well at all, stays solid. i'm guessing there's too much sodium carb, but i just haven't had luck removing excess sc and getting a smokeable product using sodium carb in water. so i have to purify the spice another way in order to vap it.

so anyway, you say i can put the spice in some based sunflower oil and pull it with ipa? thanks for your help, it's been quite a while since i've done teks.

Nah avoid sunflower oil it emulsifies and traps the spice within it making it very hard to get it out . A dry tek with acetone or ethanol is the best thing to do if you cant get xylene or toluene using acetone r ethanol in a wet tek is problematic as they are miscible with water.
You can order zippo lighter fluid online I believe..

lighter fluid is the stuff that gave me stinky spice. My spice is already extracted and dried. It just has too much sodium carbonate to vape. I'm trying to get a smokeable product.

Hmm ok i see your quandry, then maybe ipa or acetone is the way forward.
Another way is to salt it with vinegar and then break the acetate bond leaving freebase by evaporating off the vinegar and water.
Its a long temperature sensitive process that stinks the place out but results in very clean spicegoo.

hmm, I didn't know evaporating the vinegar was an option. Thanks.

My friend did that once, after shaking and separation settling, putting the nafta + the sodium-carbonate wash water all in the freezer, so there was a fast cooling rate (dunno if that is important or not). The spice didn't seem to migrate to the water (it was Na-carbonated remember) but formed a layer of crystals on top of the interface layer. Just swirling around and poring it off trough a coffee filter to catch them. Nothing seemed to "stick" in the frozen water at eye sight. The yield was enough for not checking out if there was a any loss. He did this only once so far, and avoided the siphoning off stage by simply freezing of the wash water.

Only way to know is to try it out. Smile I can see where this would be a beneficial idea as I have problems removing spice from the bottom of the jars I use to freeze and if its stuck in the ice it would be easier to remove. Not only that but it would keep from reabsorbing into the nap as it is removed from the freeze.

Tell us how it goes. I don't know why it would stay on top of the ice cuz when I drop spice into water it sinks. Maybe the water is freezing before the spice in that situation. Maybe a fridge at ~40F would be good for a while, then put it into the freezer. That might make this work better.
