Im currently in the midst of my first extraction.
Im following a tek but using caution, some parts are questionable & i could use some help Laughing

Im on the fourth & last acid boil now & plan to reduce for a few hours before moving on to the basification step.
The tek i used said to just add lye to the acacia acid solution i have, which through the last few months of research seemed wrong to me.
So, i plan on making a saturated lye solution & adding to my dmt containing soup then moving forward.
What id like to know is, should i add the lye solution while its still warm from the reaction or wait for it to cool before mixing?

I also add a pre-made lye solution rather than adding lye directly to my reduced acid washes.

It doesn't matter if you let it cool down or not really, it's going to basify the alkaloids just the same.

If you want heat during the extraction use a slow cooker or just pre-heat your solvent in a double boiler.

Okay I'll try this again and hope this damn network doesn't bout me and lose THIS post.
So, to my understanding, and I'm no extract expert, the term reaction in this case refers to the basifying of your aqueous solution. The acid boils render the alks into solution by salting them, then when you add lye, the acetate (or whatever you used as acid) molecules are knocked off and the alks at high ph are now soluble in your nps.
I'm sure you know that. But the terminology can get confused easily.
I have always added straight lye, that's the way I was tought, and what I've always read to do. This does cause a(possibly) violent reaction and you must be careful not to blow up a jar, HDPE2 jugs are far more forgiving here than glass-remember drop acid, not the base!
Anyway, as my sig attests, I operate by feel-basify till black-and acacia alks seem to respond well to heat.
Your solution is gonna get hot, there's no need to cool it first, but be careful man.
Best luck, and let is know how it goes, folks are working hard here to establish quality acacia guidelines.
Personally,i love the full spectrum acacia extracts, they are special, and always seem to reveal surprises.

Happy trails!

Don't add lye to HOT water Smile It'll spatter and you'll be forced to slow down and add it very slowly

After reducing my acid boils (I was superfluous and did 6) to one L, I cooled that to 70-80 degrees, and added a gram for every 10 ml (so 1000 received 100 g)

The lye will heat the water back up to around 90 to 105 F, which is fine, and actually better for super saturated pulls

Also, if you have any difficult working with Acacia and getting crystal out, this step in particular helped me (from Thick-light's tek):

"04. Leave the jar to sit for 6-8 hours and the overly saturated naptha should start to drop the DMT and leave a thick layer of needle like crystals across the bottom and sides. Get another jar that's clean and dry and pour off the solvent into it. Let the crystals dry then scrape them up and spread them out on a baking dish. once these don't smell like naptha they are ok to smoke."

If I did my pulls (large pulls, enough to fill a drinking glass with naptha) while the base mixture was hot, and let them sit over night at room temperature, very white, very pure crystals would fall out, which seem to be pure dmt and do not melt at room temperature. As well, the naptha could simply be poured off and saved, while the large (individual crystal clusters of 100 to 150 mg) would remain in the glass.
Just a tid bit, since until last time, Acacia was messing around with me Big grin

When I started extracting plant matter, I would add lye directly to the solution and it worked fine. Recently I switched to mixing a lye solution first, then adding that to my acacia soup. Either way will work. But whichever method you employ, the lye or lye solution should be added slowly to avoid a violent exothermic reaction.
