Awsome! This tree is incredibly widespread, and I've found a few downed trees that I'm pretty sure are the same tree. Can't let all that bark go to waste

What are the distinguishing caracteristics between Acacia dealbata and Acacia decurrens ?

..acacia dealbata can be distinguished by the white/silvery stems and slightly blue coloured foliage... pinnules are closer together and fairly small between 0.7-6mm in length..decurrens has longer pinnules than dealbata which range from around 5-15mm long and is a more green colour

below acacia dealbata followed by acacia decurrens:

not sure what species of bottlebrush you have there DonPeyote, though bottlebrushes are not in the acacia genus but the Callistemon genus

DreamTripper - I'm not quite sure what your acacia in post 473 is.... it looks quite similar to acacia acinacea, though the phyllodes seem to angle differently. I'm pretty sure they sell those at the nursery I'm volunteering at so I will try and find out for you as soon as possible...

as for your mystery backyard tree acacian..hmm..before simply declaring it another form of A. longifolia (which flowering time and appearance suggest) i'll ponder more..phyllodes do look small...is indeed interesting..




..what area of the continent is this would help...superficially resembles A. auriculiformis..but pods more helpful..there are very rare species it resembles, but area a key for this..

It is within 20 km of the ocean and it's in the mid north coast region NSW. The tree has been planted there in the last year or so (give or take) as google maps hasn't picked it up yet. I think it must have been an established tree just past the sapling stage when it was planted there.

I have a picture of the tree if that would help. I won't post it here though. To my untrained eye it doesn't look much like an auriculiformis. It has a very upright growth habit and the phyllodes don't have that weeping look like the pics I've seen of auriculiformis.

I really don't want to give away too many details as to where it is in case some rogue decides to attack it one night. I'm just interested in collecting some seeds from it when they are mature.

^ .. you could try just taking pictures of the branches facing upward with the sky in the background? makes for an aesthetic photo too

A friend told me their was A. Maidenaii growing all over a certain street, which I went to check out. I do not think these are A. Maidenaii.
The question is: what are they?

Wow thats an exotic looking plant it has a majical aura.

I think you have Callistemon Salignus, DonPeyote ... gorgeous plant - and yes very acacia-like .... could be mistaken for Melaleuca Saligna, though is distinguishable by the 3 prominent veins as opposed to the single main vein on Melaleuca

Yes, yes, the leaves smell very much like Malaleuca!

And the way the almost white trunk bark has that soft, and fluffy feel...

Definitely not an Acacia.

Hey guys, this will be my first post on this site, someone from the shroomery just sent me a link because they thought my question would be better answered here. So basically, I know that Acacia maidenii grow in my area so I was out hunting for them and came across a very convincing cluster of trees. (Having said that I am very new to acacia identification) I was hoping I could upload some photos and someone could confirm that they either were or weren't maidenii...

posting the same thing multiple times in multiple subfora is discouraged here on the nexus.

i know sometimes it can feel like it takes some time to get a decent response, but patience is considered a virtue round these here parts.


also, it looks similar to maidenii, but those flowers do seem too yellow to be it. but i am far from an expert, so this is hardly more than an educated guess. acacian or nen888 would know.

maybe some nice mod will move this post into the acacia identification thread for you
