Will consuming CBD cause one to fail a pre-employment drug test? I've heard that those tests don't discriminate between cannabinoids.

That is an excellent question. You might want to find out what lab your work place uses and ask them. This CBD hemp oil for instance is perfectly legal to sell and use in the US and many other countries as it is completely non psychoactive. The lab should be able to tell you if using this legal product could result in a false positive for cannabis. One of the biggest known problems is consumption of perfectly legal poppy seed bagels and muffins testing positive for Opiods. They usually tell you not to eat these poppy products at least 48 hours before a test. My suggestion would be that if you do test positive you act very surprised and tell them that you think it is a false positive due to legal non-psychoactive medicine that you are taking.

Good luck to you
Let us declare nature to be legitimate. All plants should be declared legal, and all animals for that matter. The notion of illegal plants and animals is obnoxious and ridiculous.
