Hi, i've been doing some research and today swim did his/her first extraction.
I'd welcome some comments please
Swim used the 15ml = 1g lye / 1g Mimosa / 1ml Primus Powerfule (Naphtha&Pentane).
I did all my equations according to 2.5ltrs of Deionized water, in a 3 ltr jar..
First up swim destroyed 2 food blenders.(I've never used those things before )
After the powerfule had seperated from the black gunk, i tried the baster but it was my first time and failed so swim used a big metal spoon and the yeild was pathetic.
Second time around, there was a cloud between the gunk and the clear stuff, i had to wait ages for it to mostly settle.
The third time around, swim added more lye and water and had a nice layer of clear stuff. My baster skills by now were spot on and swim got untold clear juice....
All three trays are in the freezer, hoping no on in the house finds them
How long before it can be seperated? 3 hours or 24?
BTW swim did all of this with man flu in his bedroom..
Alot was learnt but what do u guys think?

You broke 2 blenders? I assume you started off with whole bark and you were trying to powder it?

Anyway, depending on how saturated your solvent is (does it get cloudy at room temperature?) and how cold your freezer get determine how long you need to freeze precipitate. I generally try to leave mine alone for 24-48 hours. If you combine your pulls together and evaporate them down the process will probably go faster.

Do you do an evaporation test on your solvent in a pyrex dish to make sure it evaporates with leaving no residue?

Also, I hate to be that guy, but it is a pretty irresponsible thing to do if you are extracting in someone else's home without their knowledge/permission. I hope that isn't the case.

The root was already shredded but the blenders managed to dust up about 200g before dieing..
I will do my pulls tomorrow night then. Its just an average household fridge freezer. I'm using the bottom draw and ive turned it up to max cold setting..
I never knew about the evap test but from my reaserch this is the stuff to use, at least in the uk..

You didn't do an evap test on your solvent!
I recommend you read through this thread Before you try to vape any of your spice.

You were probably either using a "coffee" grinder or over stuffing your food processor, I've powdered whole bark in mine with little issue. You always end up with a little left over fibers that just wont powder.

Adding some non-ionized salt will help both yield and separation, so you wont get that cloudy layer as much. Don't need to be acurate just and a few hefty spoonfuls.

Putting some ice around your jars while in the freezer will help them chill faster and colder.

You could also order some pipettes online I find them to be the best method for separation, just make sure it comes with a glass tube.
