I made this out of a 1000ml boiling flask and a vacuum fitting. Total cost less than $60:

What I like about it: you put your spice in the bottom and tilt the flask a little to put the spice in the slight groove made by the flat bottom of the flask. Use your torch to melt and then vaporize. The 1000ml size is perfect, it's about a lungfull. I have ordered a cork ring to set it on when it's hot, that's the only thing like any glass pipe you really need a partner when you smoke to keep from disasters. First time I used it I set it down on a polyester area rug and melted a nice circle in the rug.

Beautiful!
Do you use a propane torch for "ignition"?

Big grin
All of the true things I am about to tell you are shameless lies.

Yes, a small torch-lighter is enough. the other thing I like: any spice you don't inhale redeposits on the inner surface of the flask. To retrieve, just swish a little absolute ethanol around, pour out into your evaporating dish or pyrex baking dish: let it evaporate and then recycle it. No waste.

It looks very nice but unless I'm missing something it heats through conduction, like a crack pipe, not through convection, like a GVG.

For this reason its not really an alternative to a GVG, but good luck with it. I also wouldn't want a device that melts carpet

Yeah this kind of design works, but it's not as effective due to heating with conduction, instead of convection.

I'd try building an Inspirator MKII from amorfati if I didn't have the money for a GVG

Main reason I stick with a "Hennessy" type machine (well, famous grouse to be precise in my instance lol) is that it is almost impossible to burn your environment with it.. I revised mine with a rubber gromit and borosilicate glass "straw", so I am not just eagerly snogging the end of a bottle. (gromit and pipe come from a basil bush bulb pipe and fit a famous grouse shot bottle perfectly)

I do like the look of yours though, would not look out of place in a lab hehehe..

If it (Hennessy machine) drops or is put down in a quick rush before everything folds in on itself then the hot part does not lay upon anything because it is "off ground". Main disadvantage is you cannot get one hit doses (not me anyways) and takes at least 2-3 tokes to get a good rip (often meaning people back off before getting full dose as they relate the fast oncoming effects to already being there)

One of these days I am just going to save the money to get a GVG from the states (cannot find a reputable supplier in my neck of woods). Seems to be the pinnacle of delivery devices and has the proverbial all important nexus stamp of approval (judging by the overall commentary across the boards).

I do like the look of your device though, I could see Prof Bunsen blasting off with one of those Big grin

I should be clear, I do own a gvg so I have had a chance to compare them.

I agree the gvg is perfectly suited to vaping spice. I have 7 screens in mine and if what I want to do is breakthrough, I can't imagine a better system. The glass allows you to see the milky white smoke when you are drawing on it and the heat is just right.

I just posted this device because I think it looks cool, and sometimes I am more in the mood to "sip" spice rather than blast off. With the gvg you are vaporizing as you draw, so it is important that the spice all vaporize quickly and evenly or you will waste some. With the flask, I take my time creating a "cloud" of vapor in the device using, as others have pointed out, convection. But unlike the gvg which requires a certain amount of skill and focus to use correctly, once I have filled my flask with vapor I have a minute or so to take the draw from it. So the entry feels a little more relaxed and non urgent. So that relaxed approach becomes part of my "set and setting". I'm not selling anything, just playing with ideas. Appreciate the feedback anyway.

Part of what got me going on this was surfing through vaporizer websites, I stumbled on a device called the "herborizer". French product, designed for MJ but their XL model offers variable temp control from 90 to 230 degrees so I think you could use it for spice at the low end of the temp control. I really like it's style but it's way too expensive to justify. So this little device is my homage to french style.

I have to say that the idea of having a lungful ready to draw before even taking your first proper draw is extremely appealing.

I am VERY eager to find out what a single dose breakthrough is like when compared to breakthrough dosing via three consecutive hits.

So what is a "hennessey" type machine? Did some web searches using that term and came up with mostly alcohol related sites.

Here is mine, made from a "famous grouse" shot bottle and the basil bush gromit/straw..

Was a right bitch to get the bottom off though (ended up using a grinder), Hennessy bottles are apparently much easier to "hole" due to indentation at base.

So for UK peeps, this can be made for less than a tenner.

Much appreciated. I have made it a bit more compact now.

The idea was borne from searching info on here and a bit of inspiration from the awesome Cyb (his vinegar bottle device is boss) Thumbs up
