How does everyone else feel about this. Personally as of now I think that they should legalize and try to control the traditional psychedelics that have been studied many times, instead of the new RC's that basement chemist come up with. What's your opinion? Smile

Nope, this is not as good as everyone makes it out to be.

What this does is it effectively makes any mind-altering substance illegal UNTIL it has been okay-ed by the NZ government. Until they do that, it is controlled.
This is a brilliant way for the government to stamp down on the RC trade. If you're selling something psychoactive and it hasn't been passed by the government, you are automatically selling a controlled substance and will be prosecuted.

Now, to be fair, the government COULD (hypothetically) make said substance legal, but really, how many of you are expecting that.
Everyone is acting like the government will be reasonable and say: "hey, this looks relatively safe, go ahead, get high," but of course they're not. This is just another to ban as many substances as possible with the least amount of effort.

The ONLY step in the right direction is flat out decriminalization and broad spectrum legalization.

It sounds like a good move and eminently civilised but I s'pose it all depends on what is covered...or more appropriately...what is not. My impression of the article is that it is for existing and emerging RCs (ie synthetics).

I have never been to NZ...it looks beautiful (on the TV) but I am also aware it has some social problems (again, from the TV). I guess it's a case of watch this space. If MDMA becomes legit...NZ will become a huge global party destination. (That would be a medicine for any struggling modern economy Wut? )

It is illegal to pick mushrooms in the UK but they cannot pass a law forbidding mushrooms to grow: Pleased

New Zealand is far away from legalization of anything, its all about restriction of new rc's no way any currently illegal substance is gonna become legalized based on proof of safety. if anyone thinks that's the case your sadly mistaken.

NZ has a history of coming down really hard on any and all mind altering substances, much like it's neighbor Australia. You could make the case that they are more draconian and ban-happy then the US, although they don't have the resources available that the DEA does.
