Anyone ever encountered 5-meo-dmt that was blue, it was synthesized in a Chinese lab and the chemist claims that the color is due to high temps due to summer weather in the lab... I don't quite believe this and am skeptical to try said substance unless anyone can shed some light on it.

yeah i'm not going to until i find out exactly what's caused it to be that color, if any chemists could chime in and let me know any steps i could do to try and purify it? I'm guessing the blue is left over from some pre cursor rather than high temps, but i'm not sure at all...

Blue is absolutely a no-go. There is no safe reason why 5-MeO-DMT is blue. Nowhere in literature does 5-MeO-DMT get seen as blue. This is for sure some impurity, potentially dangerous one, please do not consume this product, and do not trust the source anymore!

Like wise i have never found anything in the literature that would cause 5-meo-dmt to be blue which is why i was so concerned after seeing this substance, i will be sure to not take it, however i would like to do some chemistry on it to see if i can remove the blue color from it, i probably wouldn't consume it after that either, it would just be experimental.

Yeah even if I cleaned it up, I would not consume that.

Just for chemistry sake, I'd try recrystallizing it in any of the ways that work for DMT, such as FASA, or naphtha recrystallization, or first sodium carb wash and then re-x, etc.

Do you have some reagent like ehrlich or marquis? Would be interesting to test it out.

I'd be happy if you could post the results of your experimentation here!

I have plenty of pure naphtha so could try recrystallization when i get the chance, and of course will post results here when i get round to it

Oh by the way, the recrystallization as mentioned will only work if it is in freebase form. If it is in any salt form, you'd need to freebase it before, for example mixing with sodium carbonate and a bit of water before doing the naphtha pull

My synthetic 5-meo from China was light off white. benzyme told me how to turn this salt into freebase and when I did that it was even more off white or a light brown color. Nowhere even close to that scary sounding blue color.

Sounds like some manufacturer is trying to cash in on the whole blue meth thing from Breaking Bad.

Don't take it, but I would be really interested in what your reagents tests say.

Is freebase 5-MeO-DMT polymorphic? If so, then maybe its in a rare crystalline structure we don't often see. I know that happens with LSD-25 crystals.
