Hi guys, I just need some clearing up here. There was a comment in another discussion a little while back about Diggers Shellite being no good for pulling exclusively dmt. And was recommended to try lighter fluid. I did this on some obtusifolia an still ended up with goo in the extract an stuff sitting under the crystals after a freeze precip. Can anyone help with what I can use as I can't find any good naphtha.
I have also got my hands on bulk good toluene, can anybody suggest what I can use to clean it up?

Im trying out using xylene and it looks like methanol works to clean it well. takes a bit of time for the layers to separate though. ill let you know after both are done evaping

Do initial pulls (2) with Toluene, evap dry.
Once evapped, re-xtal with a small amount of hot Zippo fuel.
Freeze-precip the Zippo.
I then do another re-xtal with Zippo.

It seems as if in the last decade feuled by the rapid expansion and monopolistic greed of a certain hardware store "diggers" has replaced all the alternate higher quality brands of OTC solvents and is now virtually the only available manufacturer.
Diggers shellite at least where I am in 2020 leaves a large amount of residue when evaporate straight out of the bottle when blown on it also clouds up Asif full of solute and if frozen the oily contamination that is left when evaporated precipitates crystals that will melt at room temperature.
I am not aware if this is country wide or batch to batch but I highly recommend testing prior to use.
There is an alternate solution I have been using for recrystallization available as an aerosol for degreasing nailguns it is composed of clean evaporating hexanes with a CO2 propellent. Yes, you can use it as your organic phase if your so inclined.
Would recommend the use of more polar solvents although diggers xylene is also of poor quality and leaves a large quantity of residue when evaporated.
The distillation of DCM is quite simply accomplished by fitting a make shift condenser of cooper pipe directly to the lid of a can of paint stripper the receiver should be placed in a saline and ice bath, depending on the length of tube and your room temperature cooling of the condenser can be achieved with a fan or a towel periodically dowsed in the ice solution, the can can be placed in a warm water bath ( heated from tap and replaced periodically) to facilitate distillation.
