Am I the only one who thinks that this mega-hit is about spiritual awaking, and possibly DMT in particular? Some of the lyrics:
"I'm breathing in, the chemicals (big breath).
I'm breaking in, shaping up, checking out of the prison bus."
"This is it, the apocalypse, whoa."
"I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones.
Enough to make my systems blow.
Welcome to the new age, to the new age."
"All systems go, sun hasn't died. (Godhead?)
Deep in my bones, straight from inside."
The music video is just what their label made for the band, so it'd fit the marketing norm. However, there's a key moment in the music video. In the beginning of the video
https://www.youtube.com/...&v=ktvTqknDobU#t=52s where the singer takes a big breath ("breathing in the chemicals"
, Lou Diamond Phillips is shown smoking in a rather peculiar way (like if the band is making a statement about smoking something other than tobacco), and right after that, we see a key on his neck (the key to other dimensions?).
