What's the most fundamental physical thing ever ? Energy ? Would you define that as alive ?

I would say it meets all the criteria for life since it comprises every single thing in our universe, therefore it is alive (or part of it is... but isn't everything all one basic energy one some level anyway ?), and through us it might even be 'aware' , or at least under the illusion that it is aware (as people).

Well, if one were looking at consciousness in a linear and qualitative context, then this makes perfect sense. Personally, I'm looking at consciousness like hyperspace itself. Constantly changing....humans emerge out of the jimjam, proclaim themselves to be genious whilst destroying their environment, and then dissolve back into it. I'm really not so sure about humans being at the "highest level".

I suspect that humans once, perhaps a few thousand years ago, were among some of the most advanced of physical organisms to inhabit this planet. Along with dolphins, primates, octopi and others, but then the human race became insane. And anyway, assuming our race is the most conscious life form on earth, it just assumes way too much. Take ants and bees, for example. The hive is one mind, each ant is not truly an individual...more like a cell in one very active brain, each ant in pheromonal/subtle electric/psychic contact with the hive. And that's only one example of a possible way in which nature has invented a consciousness that "exceeds" our own. Man, I doubt it's a race. It's all integrated. We are just the tinkering part of a larger entitie's brain. And the tinkering part, is going all haywire and running amok.

I do not believe that constantly creating new and exciting gadgets is the height of consciousness. In fact, I think that that is missing the point entirely. Nature, and nature itself is conscious and is made of consciousness, likes to make things beautiful, healthy and integrated...is that what humans are doing? intelligence is not the same thing as consciousness or awareness. Intelligence is just one aspect of consciousness--and right now, intelligence is looking pretty stupid.

^imho, at this particular moment.

I think this is pretty spot on, IMO. But then again, im just a silly human too. Pleased

I don't think consciousness is born alongside the birth of a human being, we give ourselves way too much credit. If anything, we're vehicles. I don't think you need a brain to have a consciousness.

Consciousness, I think the definition is wrong.

con·scious·ness
/ˈkänCHəsnəs/
Noun
The state of being awake and aware of one's surroundings.
The awareness or perception of something by a person.

--

We intertwine it too much with intelligence, like you said.

I think the word Spirit is more fitting.
Expect nothing, Receive everything.

semi along this subject-line, i read something really deep the other day from some guru. he said that although scientists, and indeed most people, consider the basic building blocks of the universe to be space and time etc. that the real fundamental "stuff" of the universe is consciousness.

really changed my perception of such a philosophical question.

deep i thought.

Perhaps space and time, are mere human mind derived names for phenomenon that's linguistically intangible. Math can get you closer, but still far from the cake.

I picked something up from "a universe from nothing" by lawrence m krauss, about how nothing, does not exist. On a quantum level things are just random. Space and time are merely observational descriptors/tools we use to make sense of our reality.

When in fact, what may be the case, is consciousness/universal being, is just another name for the quantum flux, the random appearance/destruction of exotic quanta/particles. Mabey thats the stuff that keeps the cosmic engine running. The input that prevents the universe from ending in a fizzle rather than gravitational condensation, and another big bang.

Do space and time really exist outside of the human mind? Does consciousness in the way most define it exist outside of the mind? Or are we just trying to find some kind of fundamental order, in a, while structured and organized system, inherently prone to change due to this quantum flux that serves as an eternal input of the force that pushes evolution and novelty to thrive.

Like an equilibrium settled at unknown durations of time ago, where theres the perfect balance to not have complete chaos, non-existence, or complete order/structure, the last eventually leading to either a cold death of the universe (imho unlikely), or another big bang like event caused by condensation of energy (matter) to such a level that gravity can no longer hold it together, and the energy gets released in a spectacular show of cosmic re-incarnation.

In a society in which nearly everybody is dominated by somebody else's mind or by a disembodied mind, it becomes increasingly difficult to learn the truth about the activities of governments and corporations, about the quality or value of products, or about the health of one's own place and economy.
In such a society, also, our private economies will depend less upon the private ownership of real, usable property, and more upon property that is institutional and abstract, beyond individual control, such as money, insurance policies, certificates of deposit, stocks, etc. And as our private economies become more abstract, the mutual, free helps and pleasures of family and community life will be supplanted by a kind of displaced citizenship and by commerce with impersonal and self-interested suppliers...
The great enemy of freedom is the alignment of political power with wealth. This alignment destroys the commonwealth - that is, the natural wealth of localities and the local economies of household, neighborhood, and community - and so destroys democracy, of which the commonwealth is the foundation and practical means.” - Wendell Berry
