Hello all. Let me start by describing my login. To me, the “standing wave” represents a simple and beautiful mathematical confinement of a playful particle of energy. The atomic orbital is often described as the space occupied by the standing wave of an electron. One could consider organic synthesis as the interplay of the standing waves of the valence electrons of elements in the upper right-hand side of the periodic table. I enjoy organic synthesis and believe that much good in our world has come of it. Many analogies can be made between the physical nature of organic synthesis and the empirical nature of consciousness. For example, using a Bunsen burner, one can many elegant ground state chemical transformations; however, with the aid of a photon of light, one can gain access to new excited state reaction pathways not accessible in the ground state. These high energy pathways can be short lived and may result in unexpected side reactions but occasionally allow for extremely complex and beautiful synthetic transformations. Whether in the realm of chemical synthesis or the realm of the consciousness, I find beauty in both the ground state and the excited state. …but it’s not about me.

Many of us concur that true factual knowledge is of benefit to all. With regard to this forum, I hope to humbly contribute where I can in the analysis tools needed so that others may know the exact composition of any organic compound or mixture in question. Nature’s abundance of molecules and entheogens is complicated occasionally by human misinterpretation of composition and concentration. I wish for all, the tools needed to make their own quality decisions.

Hi. Real interesting what you say about photon absorptions allowing new excited state reaction pathways. I never thought of it like that. I'm sure the same applies to other types of absorptions like IR too. I've pondered the idea of modulating EM emissions into specific patterns that selectively enable particular reactions, that could not happen with one frequency band alone. Like using particular frequencies to excite different parts of the molecule at just the right time to cause a reaction to take place. I don't know how much this has been explored, but I have yet to hear about anything like this being used in synthesis.

Something that fascinates me is the reports of ayahuasqueros who claim to be able to transport their consciousness to the molecular scale and gain information about DNA and other molecular scale things. Maybe we can do this to gain chemistry related information. Are you a chemistry student? I haven't got my head around the whole matter wave thing yet. I picture electrons as physical objects which exist in multiple locations simultaneously, I don't know how to think about them as standing waves yet.
