Does the DMT in Mimosa Hostilis oxydize while still in the package? Options

Hello there,

I have ordered a package of mimosa hostilis, which is sealed in a plastic back which you can strip open and can close (you know what I mean I guess). My question is if the DMT will also oxydize eventually when the Mimosa hostilis is still contained in this plastic (sealed) bags ? Because it will take at least 6 months before I will begin extracting new DMT, and I don't want it to be oxydized by than. Can someone help me with this question (maybe out of own experience of storing mimosa hostilis for a long period before extracting. I would like nice white DMT out of the extract, and I guess this can not be done anymore if it is allready oxydized, right ?

Thanks for the help,

greets

hello J0rrit,

just keep your bark in the freezer and it will last for a very long time

Personally, I wouldn´t worry too much about 6 months even if the bark was shredded Smile

It is powder indeed. But will the DMT oxydize when just being in the mimosa powder? And because I live in a student-home, I don't think I can put it in the freezer, simply because there won't be any space I guess. But the mimosa CAN be stored in the freezer without any problems when unfreezing it ?

And what happens exactly when it oxydizes? Can it be still extracted into pure white nn-dmt?

unfreezing it will be fine, but if you cant freeze it and you're only storing it for a short amount of time then putting it in an air tight container and keeping it in a cool, dry, dark place should be fine.

I think you can change DMT oxide back into DMT with a zinc conversion, have a search around the forum and you will find more info on this.

Thanks. And how can I see the difference between DMT-oxide (which is also yellow, right?) and all the plant material that comes along which also makes the DMT yellow ?

greets

You won't see it because it's not soluble in naphtha. If you are sure your bark contains lots more DMT in an oxidized form, you could try to pull it with toluene or xylene then convert it with the excess zinc method as 3rdI mentioned.

This question keeps appearing, and it would be nice to have the input of a chemist. DMT in plant material is in salt form, and I thought that the salts of indole compounds were generally very stable, hence barely susceptible to oxidation. Wouldn't this apply to the DMT oxalate (or whichever salt form) in particular?

hi Jin,

how are you storing the bark?

No, it does not oxidize readily, according to different tests I made. Even when extracted in freebase form it seems to only superficialy oxidize. In mimosa it is in salt form and it will stay good probably indefinitely. Even if it did oxidize, which it most likely won't, it can be recovered as mentioned before.

Also, as far as I know there is no hard data to show that DMT N-oxide is yellow. I think so far it's only a supposition;. It is an oil, that's all we know, but even then, oily DMT does not mean it's DMT N-Oxide, it can be several other things. If you look at the FAQ question 'is my spice ok to smoke', there is a link to a thread I made about DMT colors, maybe that is of interest.

A few years ago I got a little less than 1% yield from 15 year old bark that was stored in a paper bag in the garage. My extraction technique could have been better, but I was happy with the results.

No worries on storing it long term.
I already asked Alice.
