I plan to take ayahuasca for the first time in the next few days and I've got a few basic questions which I hope you guys can answer. I'm planning to use this recipe: http://www.disregardever...huasca-brewing-techniqueBut there are a few points I'm not clear on: 1. 4 tablespoons of vinegar seems like a lot for one dose. 2. The ingredients list includes 1 empty tea bag (or zip lock bag) which then doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere in the recipe, could it be for brewing the syrian rue? 3. The recipe states that 1g of syrian rue should be sufficient if taken in gel cap form. That doesn't seem like enough to me (I was thinking 1.5g). 4. The mimosa dosages seem a little high, I was thinking 3g but I don't want too gentle an experience even though it will be my first time.

1. Bollocks, you don't need any vinegar at all for brews, it just makes it taste worse. 2. You can use one like this if you want, most people simply filter through a shirt before they reduce the brews. 3. Bollocks. Most people need at least 2g for full MAO inhibition 4. This one depends entirely on your biology really, 3 would usually be mild but one can't say for sure until he tries it, so I recommend testing lower dosages first. Personally 5g of mimosa brewed with 3g of rue was good for me. 3 x 30 minute boils with fresh water, removing and filtering the water each time, then recombining it all after the boils and reducing to your preferred volume to drink. Hope this helps. Art Van D'lay wrote:Smoalk. It. And. See.

Thanks Orion.
I'm glad to hear that the vinegar is not really required, the idea of downing that much vinegar in one shot isn't very appealing.
I've read that taking too little syrian rue is often the reason why many first brews turn out to be duds, so 2g might be the way to go - though the author of that recipe seems to think that syrian rue taken in gel cap form is twice as potent as when brewed.
As for the mimosa, I think it might be sensible to try 3g for the first time (just to test the potency of the bark as you suggest) and then take 5g the second time.

for me 2g of rue and 3g of mimosa would probably do nothing but frustrate me. I weigh a 180lbs. For me 4-5g of rue and 8-10g of mimosa, after fasting for the whole day with the previous day of eating light is what gets me off.
I think many would agree with me under dosing is frustrating and isn't really going to yield anything rewarding. I recommend at least taking the suggested dosage. Also take what I say with a grain of salt as everyones tolerance is different, also weight has been a factor with dosage effectiveness in my experience.
Also I am not sure of your level of experience with things of this nature but since your contemplating a low dose it seems like your a bit apprehensive, my advice is that when you do decide to dose is to just let go.

I'm not really apprehensive, it's just I have zero experience with psychedelics so I think a little caution would be wise. I think you're right though, I just need to bite the bullet and go with the dose suggested by Orion.
Your observation on body weight makes sense too - pharmaceuticals are normally administered that way in a clinical setting. It's a good heuristic and gives me a target to shoot for relative to my body weight, something like 3.75g syrian rue and 7.5g mimosa.

that sounds good without being too much imo. Also just know that trip reports and reading the FAQ and wiki are helpful no doubt, but when the experience kicks in no amount of reading can really prepare you. Just stay positive and let us know how it goes. I am definitely interested since you have never tried psychedelics before, your first journey into that world with ayahuasca is a good call imo. Good luck

Mimosa + syrian rue does not = Ayahuasca. The effects of Caapi (Ayahuasca) are very different than that of syrian rue. I would highly suggest the addition of caapi to your brew so you can get some of the more healing and nurturing sort of benefits that Ayahuasca is known for. “Music is the voice of God traveling through ten-dimensional hyperspace.” ― Michio Kaku

Based on tons of experience with both I tend to disagree with this but hey everyone is different. There is some difference between the two but its minor IME and I dont find cappi to have any more healing than rue does. Long live the unwoke.

Thanks adam I'll make sure to update with a trip report. I don't have any caapi at hand and don't really want to wait until I can get hold of some, but it's something I'll definitely try out in the future.

In my limited experience I haven't noticed much difference between rue and caapi.
