Did the camera (obviously not any ordinary camera) affect the electron being observed? And if so, how? See the reply from Citta: Citta wrote:What I have made a case for is how it is not correct to somehow use quantum mechanics to imply the fact that consciousness begets matter, as many people do. I think I have made it quite clear that quantum mechanics do not, by default, imply such a thing with the fact that 'observation' in quantum mechanical terms simply refers to a natural physical interaction between for example a photon and an electron, that in principle is quite similar to the disturbance you will do to the temperature of a cup of coffee upon measurement. So to answer your question: yes, the electron was affected by the 'camera'. Kind regards, The Traveler This is the point that Korey made, this video doesn't explain the full experiment because the scientists leave the camera there but turn it off and it goes back to the wave pattern. It's only when the camera is observing does the pattern change. The camera doesn't physically interfere with what's going on.

I have to agree with everything you said in it too joe if citta could have explained what was happening he would have the noble peaace prize sitting on his mantlepiece no offence citta but we can't explain the experiment...yet.

applebaum wrote:So until recently I always figured that the measurement at the slits was what was screwing up the interference pattern. Not that a consciousness was looking at the slits, but that something was put at the slits to interfere with the light particles as they went through. But I just recently heard about this... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delayed_choice_quantum_eraserWhere the information about which slit the light particle went through is made ambiguous half the time and is known the other half. In this case when they looked at the results it showed that where the path through the slits could be known an interference pattern didn't show up. When the information was not known it did show up, but the light all passed through the exact same materials. I'm not really a new agey kind of guy, but how does this experiment NOT say that it is our ability to know that is collapsing the wave and not a measurement device? Honestly if we are going to resurrect this thread I would really like Citta and SWIMfriend to address "The Delayed Choice Quantum Eraser experiment" outlined above. If your religion, faith, devotion, or self proclaimed spirituality is not directly leading to an increase in kindness, empathy, compassion and tolerance for others then you have been misled.
