So, I have seen a post on here in the Welcome thread where someone had a "bad" trip, where I believe he might have experienced ego-death.

I am wondering, are these drugs recommended for materialists to take? For example, I enjoy video games, tv, drawing etc etc. What change would I experience in terms of material things and worldly goals under the influence of... the stuff?

Not that I'm too worried, I've pretty much already made up my mind I want to be sent to space, so this is more of a hypothetical.

It's difficult to necessarily recommend psychedelic drugs to anyone, materialist or not, in modern society for a variety of reasons. Even though they can be immensely useful and most people that have any sort of meaningful interaction with them usually benefit in some fashion, ultimately it's someone's consciousness (or even existence for that matter) which gets thrust into an unknown and uncharted facet of the cosmos.

In the psychedelic state, all the fake aspects of our society, all the lies to drive profit for other people, all the illusions which are presented as fact may come under scrutiny. You may gain an understanding about how a TV show you really like is only fueled by the desire for profit and control by the military industrial complex. You may realize that actions and habits you previously though to be normal have actually been forced upon you through social pressures, mainstream culture, and the desire to exist as a part of society. You may discover that some of your favorite foods are actually toxic. You may realize that your goals and what defined success for you before are meaningless and thus your life may change drastically.

These are hypothetical but many things of this nature came to light for me after visiting hyperspace and exploring the outer edges of consciousness. Immediately, it may seem concerning to potentially face this disruption but in the long run having a better understanding of yourself and your existence outweighs any concerns.

As a result of taking psychedelics, both in my own and my close friends' experience, one's true passions will be amplified and the things that are done simply because something or someone says they 'should' will loose focus.

It is safe to assume that psychedelics will result in a drastic change of whatever worldview you currently hold.
Every day I am thankful that I was introduced to psychedelic drugs.

They will more than likely alter your view of reality and everything in it. How exactly? Its too complicated and variant to say which way it will go

I think, not speaking to you specifically, that a person wrapped up in priorities revolving around materialism are a perfect person to take these medicines,
Like uni said, its impossible to know which way this will effect such a person but having the veil lifted can be quite a game changing event.

Set and setting is a huge factor. A person taking something like LSD at a rave is vastly different exp than in a good circle of friends out in nature or alone in silent darkness.

I know many people who have tripped countless times and don't seem to "get it". Others take a psych once and change the course of their life 180 degrees.

I am not gonna lie, shits gonna get weird!

Enjoying video games, tv and drawing is considered materialistic? hmm interesting.
I always consider stupid expenses on brand name clothing, flashy cars and cutting edge technology for those who have absolutely no clue how to use it as materialistic pursuits.
Regarding being sent to space? are you talking about hyperspace, or real space? sorry to tell you, but Mars 2023 is never ever ever going to happen heh.
I agree with the others, it`s hard to know how you will react.
Personally, it has revealed character flaws and laziness that I am trying to correct.
Haven`t quite sold my house and decided to live with the tree people, well, not yet haha...it certainly would make programming difficult.

Psychedelics are for everyone, but some people just don't like them.

Will they change your views on existence? Maybe.

Will your views stay the same? Maybe.

There's only 1 way to find out my friend, don that swimming cap and dive head first down the rabbit hole.
