I would defiantly say that psychedelics are not just a hippie thing but are just generally dismissed as one, in fact most people i've ever met that have taken psychedelics other than mushrooms are actually blue collar working folk, or writers, or artists. I think its more of a lack of general information about psychedelics that usually turn off mainstream society from them
