Was not sure where to post this but am hoping it will be appreciated, who doesn't love a bit of crystal porn.. As such, after a week learning the ways of Recrystallization, I would like to present this image. I hope it passes muster Smile

Starting material = 250g mhrb split in 2x3 liter Kilner jars w/100g ea & 1x2 liter w/50g.

Method of extraction = STB with 1 pull x3comb of LPD* and 2 pulls of x3 comb HPD**

Shorthand Keywords for the tek used = 'cyb', 'MOAR SALT', 'heat bath' & 'mag-sulphate'.

1st pull of LPD was freeze precip once then siphoned and rest evap down to goo.

2nd was given intial freeze precip, then a second pull and freeze precip then left to part-evap after a quick third pull (final of two pulls so left a day or so with occasional agitation) and left for final freeze precip.

Re-ex procedure and solvents used:

1st step - Sodium carbonate wash and re-x with LPD

2nd step - Heated bath to warm heptane and melt dmt, add heptane slowly until all dmt dissolved, add a little more then transfer to a Pyrex dish and sit in a spare room, left (safely) angled specifically for a triangular surface (the liquids volume as an inverted 'top-heavy' pyramid) and leave for 1&1/2 day until fully evaporated. Then placed gently upside down for a few more hours and presto Smile

Amounts are yet to be fully ascertained.

*LPD = Light Petroleum distillate (lighter fuel)
**HPD = Heavy Petroleum distillate (Bartoline low odour white spirit)

Note: first time using the HPD and likely the last.. Will stick to LPD+Heptane for now.

Sorry to be a pain or come across a bit thick, where in your tek did you use said mag-sulphate?

Did you find that the sodium carbonate wash was worth while Zenspice? Would you recommend it?

Thank you.

I added a solution of about 250ml H2O heated and saturated with MgSO4 until no more would dissolve then added to the basified solution that already contained the MHRB (250ml split evenly between the 3 jars) after it had been originally mixed, stirred and then allowed an hour to settle in a heat bath (before being given another stirring)..

At first the whole thing turned a dark ash grey colour but I commenced with adding my LPD and giving them half hourly agitations (4 over 2 hour period). After then leaving overnight (on top of a fridge for light vibratory effect) it settled into three distinct layers (bottom grey sludge, a main middle layer of lovely dark black/red liquid and the top layer of the added LPD (HPD for second and third pulls).

I think I may have another pull in them yet, just have to get myself one last lot of LPD (HPD is a waste of time in my opinion, way to hard to work with).

Thanks for posting these Zen. Seriously this id better than porn to me. I absolutely love dmt crystals and your look amazing.

I am currently growing some biggies in heptane as well. I like the colored full spec dmt and have 2 martini glasses, one bright yellow dmt one orange amber dmt.
I dissolved 1.5g dmt into each with 100ml HOT Heptane. I left the dissolved dmt in the hot water bath for about 10 min stirring occasionally.

I have a CD covering each glass as well to slow the evaporation down. So far there are lots of sea urchin shaped crystals on the bottom of the yellow glass and sides, but the orange is not yet making very interesting shapes and the crystals are much less but that dmt had much more oils and fats so I'm guessing they will form after more solvent evaps.

Im hoping to get a real nice formation to put in this 1ml tiny glass erlenmeyer flask I found in a junk pile in my buddies back yard for display. I carved a small cork from a wine bottle. I really love dmt crystals.

I am not gonna lie, shits gonna get weird!

Wow am feeling genuinely honoured at all angles here now Love

I have got a new crystal dish to try out and am keeping my eye out for some good items to see what I can do to try and improve on this image (attempt to make fields, form from a seed etc). I'm also going to try covering in different ways and leaving in different places (light, dark, going from varying temps etc) to see what kind of formations I can get..

I said it before and will say it again, whoever commented on DMT not being addictive didn't take the ever instant love relationship of spice recrystallization into account Very happy

A million thanks Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up

Zen, I've been looking at he Jedi master Phlux's pics and many were grown in a day. Do you feel that slow evaps aren't really needed to grow big ones?
I seriously don't know how he gets such awesome shapes. Ant tips would be very appreciated. I too am obsessed with these structures!

I know the container shape makes a difference I try to find glass ware that has funnel shapes. Should i try flat ware? Your look much nicer than what I have growing so far. Im just getting massive random clusters in one of the glass's.

I was looking and didn't find many but will have to search specifically for Phlux's images, thanks for the heads up..

For those in the image I used a Pyrex rectangular dish that was angled (employing tactical use of blu-tac and heavy objects to maintain stability) so the liquid volume was in the shape of an inverted pyramid. Allowed it to evap naturally in the dark over a 16 hour period (by which time they were pretty much fully ready).

I can only really comment on what I have done but I am going to experiment further. I have adapted an old PC- RAM fan and have purchased a small glass bowl so I can try a few extra techniques and see what forms. I would be both happy and honoured to post images and some additional intel here in the coming future Smile

It seems almost too much of a shame to scrape them up, they're so pretty.

Almost.

That's also just an excellent picture. The photographer in me commends you on that as well. Great composition.
