My roomate got a few of these from the store and I have grown rusticas and tabacums for years but never ran across this type of tobacco before. it obviously has nicotine as most Nicotianas do. The leaves and flowers are sticky with resin, so I'm curious about the species to harvest some and also collect the seeds. If anyone could help me ID these pictures it would be much appreciated if not I'll just head over to the same store tomorrow and get the latin name from them.

Thanks your friend,

Sorry the top picture is rotated, it does that sometimes because of my camera settings.

My $ go to Nicotiana Alata, jasmine tobacco, AKA Saratoga in garden guides. It's a small sized cultivar.

I'll stand corrected by the storekeeper Smile

Really appreciated my only text on tobacco has botanical drawings and is in B/W. Isn't alata the strain they used to hybridize N. tabacum. Let me check this. Smile

Ah I don't know about that though it doesn't have the same height and the leaves are shaped differently. I wish I had some nice specimens of N. alata.

EDIT:
I think this is N. alata.
How tall is it? My specimen's height from base to flowers was about 2 feet, maybe 2 and half feet.
I was just growing some, could have posted pics to corroborate - but it was eaten by my pernicious goats; which incidentally illustrates nicely the lack of nicotine in this species, didn't phase the goat at all.

Yeah they are beautiful, a fine example of the Solanaceae. smell great too.
