I just grafted my baby about two days ago and I noticed this orange red thing forming on the sides. Is my baby rotting? How can I save him? k3nnyw attached the following image(s): image.jpg (1,234kb) downloaded 45 time(s). image.jpg (1,163kb) downloaded 45 time(s).

It is drying out, put some petroleum jelly (Vaseline) around the seam of the graft. This creates a oxygen barrier and stops them from drying. This also keeps out harmful bacteria or old from forming and makes sure that a callus does not develop on the stock. nameless The problem with wisdom is that it cannot be taught, but ignorance can.

i just cut it open and there was reddish brown on both the scion and the root stock. i hope that it means it did rot because if i was wrong i just cut open my cactus for nothing i reattached it though and if i could find some vaseline ill apply it how can you tell the difference between rot and drying out?

That is where the tissue is starting to die. If the scion takes to the stock it will probably just turn into callus. Rot will feel very squishy and will not retake form, like a rotten peach. The problem with wisdom is that it cannot be taught, but ignorance can.

i posted this on the shroomery and they told me it was a bacterial infection. man i hope i made the right decision cutting it because i split the cactus after the second time i cut it but it didn't reach the vascular ring. the vascular ring when i cut it was all red and stuff though, not sure if that means the bacteria has spread to the nutrient system or something. this is my first time grafting so im learning quite a lot lol. they might have said it was rot because i posted this picture though, on the sides it seems to turn a little brown.

several issues: scion much larger than stock- stock not beveled- packing tape may have contributed to rot- not enough FAE
probably wont take-sorry. try your call again later
