I honestly have never taken any psychedelics before, and I wanted to try DMT for my first time, would taking a low dose not make it so frightful or what? I've participated in the use of marijuana which I do a lot just to inform those who don't know.

Technically, marijuana is a psychedelic, but I understand, effect wise it's not usually used for major tripping.

Low dose is a very good idea. Jumping into anything too deep isn't wise. Some might suggest a different first time psychedelic as well, such as psilocybe mushrooms, to gain practice in letting go.

Another thing to keep in mind with dose is that everyone is wired differently, has different metabolism, different body weight, so a small dose for one person is huge to another. Find your own by starting very small and working up with anything.

Finding your sweet spot will usually make your learning more productive, and if you feel you want to go deeper, you can ease into it. Keep in mind that almost everyone agrees, small dose increases often yield big jumps in effect, the dose to effect ratio doesn't seem to be linear at all.

Also, welcome to the Nexus, Zjes. Please consider making an introduction post about yourself.

Thanks Mustelid, I wonder how much should I take for starters (smoking-wise), would you have any idea?

For smoked DMT I would start with maybe 10 to 15mg. I would play it one the safe side and go with 10mg and then increase with 5mg increments.

However, smoking DMT can take some practice. Depending on your smoking device it will take practice to efficiently vaporize DMT and minimize the amount you'll burn. This applies for the GVG but also for a machine, a bong, freebase pipe or any other device. With a GVG it is finding the sweet spot for the flame, with a bong the trick is creaming it nicely and not burning the material too quickly or with too much flame. While you are practicing your smoking technique I strongly recommend not increasing the dosage too quickly as the resulting trip might be a bit too intense.

Try smoking a dose perhaps three or four times and each time try to see what works and what doesn't.

does DMT affect your responses like marijuana does or can you think at the same speeds.

Hi Zjes
I would spend a lot more time reading here at the Nexus first before you dive in to DMT.
You sound quite inexperienced in substances and having your first time with one of the most powerful entheogens on the planet may be a little overpowering.
A small amount of mushrooms would be a better introduction imo, just to see if you like it.

If you insist on the spice, then start small 10-15mg at first, then work your way up in 5mg increments. 25mg can take a lot of people to full breakthrough...so you don't need much.

Be careful and be safe.

Zjes, vaporized DMT hits you within a few seconds. As for your thinking, that is quite dose dependent and changes from time to time, I find with smaller doses I can think fairly clearly though I can watch the amazing detailed visuals with my eyes closed. You can get great visuals from smaller mushroom doses too, though they're somewhat different.

On larger doses, your very concept of thought, self, existence, the universe, and time can be obliterated, and you can't unsee what you see, though you do get to go back to your body. Always remember that in a trip. It can seem that you'd never fit, after seeing what you do, but you come back.

Still this is a major and life changing event, and not something to be taken lightly. I'd heed the advice from the people here and do more reading and research.

Make sure you understand set, setting, intent, and integration. And ultimately, the decision to try DMT or any other powerful psychedelic is between you and the psychedelic, but it doesn't hurt to be certain that you are ready. If you aren't that's no problem either, you're welcome here, and the molecule will be there in the future.

Hi,

I also suggest that you do some more reading on this topic before you blast off. All the questions you´ve asked have already been answered. Its of course OK to ask questions (and thats why this forum exists, after all Smile ) but it is somehow expected that people do some "homework" on their own beforehand.

Keep safe Thumbs up

I would agree with much of the advice given here, as far as being patient and doing your homework, but in my experience, starting with small doses hasn't always given first-timers the best results. I am CERTAINLY not recommending that you take a very high dose without ample preparation; I have no desire to wish that kind of terror upon anyone, but I have found many times before that after first timers get a taste of what they're dealing with, they are very afraid to go back. This happened to me after my first time and it took me many many months until I mustered up the courage to try it again, and I was greatly rewarded and praised by the entities there for having the nerve to come back. They seem to like courage.

Terence McKenna has said a lot on this subject, when it comes to dosage and sometimes doing too low of a dose. He says something along the lines of "Don't diddle your dose! Do your homework, do the research, and go for it!"

When comparing my first time use (as someone with quite a bit of LSD use under their belt), to some of my friends' first times (without nearly as much 'experience' in the psychedelic world), I have found very inconsistent results. The first time I smoked DMT (broke through), it scared me so intensely that I can't even describe it (though many here probably know what I mean), but some of those "less experienced" friends of mine broke through on their first dose, and came back crying tears of joy at the beauty of it. Part of me wishes that I had started low and worked my way up, so that maybe I wouldn't be as terrified of it as I am now, but not everyone is like me.

The truth is, no matter how much you prepare, research, study, etc. before you try it the first time, you CANNOT be ready for it. It will knock you off your feet and rattle your foundations no matter how many other psychedelics you have or haven't used.

There's also the risk of doing small doses, thinking to yourself "well this isn't so intense..." and then upping your dose dramatically, with very uncomfortable results. The elves don't take kindly to an attitude of "well this isn't that crazy after all" and will go out of their way to show you otherwise. So if you do start low, do it consistently. Work your way up slowly, and realize that what you see at low doses STILL won't prepare you for what you're in for.

But before any of this, READ READ READ READ READ

Just because you can't be fully prepared doesn't mean you shouldn't try to be less unprepared
