Hello swim has been smoking high quality marijuana for 12 years. Over the past 6 years Swim had a connection for extremely potent KUSH strains, hash, butter, oil. Swim has been in weed heaven smoking 5 grams a day and haven't stopped for a day since I started.

I feel the need to quit because I am way to lethargic and I don't remember my dreams anymore. Even when I smoke DMT I wake up usually in a different location not remembering a thing. Social anxiety is growing on me as well as other cognitive issues.

Has any of you heavy smokers out there ever quit cold turkey? What can I expect and any advice would be appreciate!

Swim should also add that within the passed 6 months Swim quit benzodiazepines and opiates all together. Swim had 2 seizures during this process and almost died. Marijuana was swims crutch through this all. Swim wonders if this will make swims marijuana withdrawal worse.

It's been a long hard process but Swim desperately don't want to be a addict anymore.

If you are going to quit cold turkey pick up exercise, to take more of your spare time, Remaster old hobbies. Withdrawing is nothing. Just a slight urge to smoke when stressed. Nothing like tobacco or other drugs, but stick to what I said and I've never had a problem quitting cold turkey multiple times after heavy use long term.
Understand: Nature knows no EVIL, Nature knows no GOOD, people know these things, because we perceive these things, with the gift of senses given to us at birth. A good or bad experience is simply a bridge to a another existential time frame, so always live in the moment and make every one a positive moment!

Any and all posts or interactions are to be held as my fictional writings/short stories or dreams. I may even have some delirium setting in, I've never been tested for it. The only exception to this is the statement about nature above, I feel this is a fact!

With I had known that before my post but if anything the exercise should combat bad effects oh and eat healthy, GET IT ALL OUT OF YOUR SYSTEM! Take it slow at first (I suggest 5-15mins at least sometimes 30 if your able of cardio to start then move to other things like abs and weights until you can't anymore at least 3-5days/week.) and drink lots of water while exercising. Build up slow if you don't currently lift I just got put on benzos+SSRI and am quitting weed, alcohol, and cigs all cold turkey. So this is what I'm doing (what I'm telling you in my last two posts) and its all working great for me!

I'm no doctor nothing I say can overrule or be taken as medical advice!

Newfoundland, I am a frequent medical Cannabis smoker myself currently, and have been for multiple years.

It has been awhile since my last period of temporarily stopping cold turkey. Definitely noticeable changes in myself that I noticed under the total non-influence of Cannabis:


1. mild to moderate agitation (easily aggravated), especially when other people communicate with me.

2. An anxious, uncomfortable feeling within myself

3. Return of depression

4. Increased intensity and frequency of physical back pain.


I hope that you find resolution to lethargic tendencies; I know some people that have explained their intentional lethargy while medicated on Cannabis like "If I go do stuff, I'll lose the effects faster".

I personally ignore that fact, and utilize it , in part, to motivate myself thinking "might as well do this work while I feel like it".

I hope that you have success staying off of prescription medications (unless you need them for a medical condition). (I lack medical training).

I'm curious if the seizures occurred while abstaining from benzo's and opiates, or if they occurred while utilizing them?

Swim was buying dilaudid and valium + clonazepam from the black market. His first seizure happened because he traveled from Canada to Las Vegas without his medication.

On day 2 Swim was extremely achy and jittery. He was shaking like a leaf and couldn't have a good time. He had hot and cold sweets and electric explosive pain throughout my whole body. On day 3 Swim could not feel my body and went into complete shock then woke up in the hospital 12 hours later hooked up to a Iv. I learnt my lesson the hard way, you cannot abruptly stop benzos! the doctor told me it was the main cause of my seizure. They told me I was very close to death when the ambulance picked me up on the 32 floor of the venitian hotel.

Before my vacation to Vegas swim was snorting 25mg dilaudid, and taking 6mg clonazepam with 30 mg valium a day.

Second seizure happened on Christmas Day this year trying to quit for my fiancé. After my second seizure I was provided with a specialist and a propor Wein schedule to get off the drugs and i did!!

I'm a 30 year weed smoker, and haven't ever tried seriously to quit. But I have gotten myself into a sort of balance where it's about a half gram a day, high quality, smoked once in late afternoon and once or twice- very small bowls- late evening. The effects are much more enjoyable, no shortness of breath or social anxiety, no issues with lethargy. I know that simply cutting back can be hard- for some, harder than cold turkey- but it worked for me.

Spending at least half the day sober is actually quite nice.

yeah I would just quit 100% if that is how you feel. Quit for 6 months then try to use it infrequently. After 6 months away from it you shouldnt have this same problem with the stuff where you need to smoke it constantly. It also found that when I stopped like that my ayahuasca and DMT experiences got clearer.

I had withdrawls for a good week or so when I quit an ounce every 1-2 weeks habit overnight.

I think cold turkey is the way to go. I had tried to quit many times by weining myself off cannabis, but it never worked for me. Every time I would slip back into my old smoking habits.

I quit exactly 20 days ago, after 10+ years of being an all day every day smoker of high grade cannabis, and I haven't looked back since. I too was tired of being an addict.

The first 10 days were difficult, having to get used to living life sober. I couldn't eat or sleep well, and would have random mood swings. But in the last 10 days, I have had a definite improvement in overall mood, energy levels, and outlook on my future. My dreams have also become much more vivid, and more easy to recall.

I haven't experienced any of the negative effects that Cosmic Spore mentioned. I'm sure everyone is different in this regard. If you medicate for pain, you should expect some increase in pain levels when quitting.

Good job on kicking the benzos and opiates. I am currently on a methadone clinic, and just started my detox process. I know folks there who were prescribed benzos by an overzealous dr for mild anxiety, or a situationaly stressful circumstance, at a young age and are now in middle age and unable to kick because of the severe health consequences of doing so, as you experienced. They are the most evil drug on the face of the p[lanet- dont get me going on the anti-benzo tirade- Ive lost way more friends to them than heroin.
But anyway, do what you think you need to do, I doubt you have no idea what yer in for, and if you can kick benzoa, you can kick anything! You may get a little pissy and bored but thats it. Cool

I tried and tried to kick a large pot habit for years. The way I finally succeeded was cold turkey, but I had to change my environment to do it.

What worked for me was doing it on holiday. Before I left, I totally cleaned out my smoking den and packed up all the tools of trade. From there I left for a couple of weeks at the beach. While there I made sure I was really energetic - lots of swimming and walking in the day and then lots of booze and carousing in the nights. Not a completely healthy thing, but this flipped the switch for me and made me realise I didn't need that crutch any more.

I think the reason it stuck for me was that there was no stress and I could literally feel my brain waking up again. Hobbies became more fun for me and I had a focus and sharpness of purpose that I didn't have when pot-addled. Every time I saw this in me, I used it as a piece of positive reinforcement.

So yeah - keep yourself busy.

Just do like I did. Start Pot smoking at the age of 8 and then smoke until 29 and then get married to a non pot smoker.
I quit right away!

It won't be too terrible. You should definitely make a point to get exercise or do something fun to take your mind off wanting to smoke. Also I would highly recommend a sleep aid, preferably melatonin. The sleepless nights were the hardest part of taking breaks for me. Pot increases your melatonin production by a few thousand fold, so it makes sense to supplement a few hours before bed in the beginning and taper off as needed.

Also if you need motivation, just remember you will start dreaming again and your dreams will probably be quite intense once they start coming back.

I was smoking 3.5 grams a day before I quit, the hardest part in all honesty is not the lack of weed, it will be the lack of friends. Unfortunately, your will to quit will not resonate with the mindset of your current social, unless they too want to quit (don't wait around though) you will find that loosing the social that you had will be the difficult part.

You can do it, as you have programmed your mind to smoke at certain intervals of the day, you can reformat the brain. Take it easy, try cutting down to one joint a day, you will notice how alive you start to feel again, it will aspire you to higher.

Stay blessed, your breaking through is a beautiful thing already, your yearning for more, it is a beautiful sign of awakening.

I agree with this, i lost my bestest friend to benzos, booze and the cold. I also agree that if you can give up for a while then smoke occasionally, getting stoned becomes a lot of fun again. Provided, as Guyomech said , you smoke some nice quality stuff. I"ve done the smoking all day everyday thing, and given up for a number of years aswell. Once or twice a week is best for me, but i usually have a little smoke each evening at the moment.

Having non-stoners in your social circle is also a big plus. My wife quit over a decade ago- she used to smoke me under the table- and although I still enjoy my weed quite a bit, I also value sober states a lot more. If your whole circle are weed smokers it will be much harder.

Not only will it improve your dream recall, but in a very similar way it will improve recall of DMT experiences. Another nice perk, whether you quit or just radically cut back.

I had a similar problem, I was a religious chronic smoker for years. It was a regular thing for me but it came to a point where I was only able to fit in an 8hr shift at work into my day and I'd just lose complete track of my day and productivity. I never stopped remembering dreams but short term memory was GONE, I constantly got shakey and jittery and generally anxious in public situations. I pretty much pointed the finger to my half zip a week habit, not to mention an occasional date with Lucy and Dimitri. I was strictly vaporizing bud and barely using combustion for maximum purity. I decided to cut out all substances because I could barely function around people or feel normal and not paranoid but I constantly wanted to toke.. I went on a clense and stopped staying up late, started cycling and getting physical activity more while sober. I cut out processed food and ate nothing but raw fruit, greens and nuts. I learned that not only the substances were effecting my well being and anxiety, but it was everything. Environment, food, body, and mind. At that point I had virtually stopped using marijuana, perhaps a vape rip every few days which tapered into not using it at all. I didn't even realize my stash was barely touch over the course of two weeks. It was what I needed, I replaced the good feelings of thc with good old fashioned nutrients and well being. It helped me center myself and actually learn alot about me I didn't know I was capable of. I'm back to vaping and feeling great, but clearing the smoke and nourishing your body and keeping it active was the easiest way for me to replace it.
When it all boils down, were all one continuing neural circuit, connected in a physical world of atoms and light. Enjoy your ride.
