Now the UK government are using anti-terrorism laws (!) to intimidate opposition politicians through dramatic arrests and temporary imprisonment.

^^People need to stand up for their rights less they get sucked away. Its easier to keep rights then to get them back. Never forget that. By the way, when is the UK going to tell the queen to fuck off?

Royalty's being dissolved very slowly. There are already plans to fully reform the House of Lords. I think there'll always be a royal family, but it'll have no links to government whatsoever, not even signing the odd piece of paper as they do now, once the old colonial generation have died out. As long as patriotism doesn't become fashionable again.

And we have told our aristocracy to f off many times! Two peasant revolts and three civil wars and a regicide which involved a period of time as a republic. Unfortunately the royals were reinstated bizarrely, after Cromwell made a puritanical hash of things as a parliamentary military dictator.

^^Haha excellent. But yes it is scary both whats going on in the U.S. and the U.K. in terms of rights being eroded for "safety". Now in the U.S. I hear people have to send some email before flying and they will get asked some basic questions like.

1- are you a war criminal?

2- are you addicted to drugs?

some other bullshit like that. Its so stupid and such a total waste of time money effort and its fustrating.

skurry, very skurry,, am not fond of the idea of more control on the flow of information. The internet is a communication revolution; and if there is a tightening down upon it, I believe that a counterculture will develop and the madness will only continue.

The jury have found that the police are entirely to blame for their execution of an innocent civilian... but the judge wouldn't allow them to give a verdict of 'unlawful killing', only 'open verdict' or 'lawful killing', of course of these two options they chose 'open verdict'. Thank god the jury weren't made up of the thick types who support the rise of fascism in the Western world. By not allowing a verdict of 'unlawful killing', the judge is allowing the police to murder civilians with impunity.

Maybe my 'rise of totalitarianism' posts are a little off the topic, but they're intended to show exactly why police SHOULDN'T be given more date powers... because they abuse every power they are given.

"Surveillance powers designed to tackle terrorism have been used by local councils more than 10,000 times - for "crimes" as minor as littering.
...The alleged offences included littering, illegal street trading, and taking the fairy lights from a Christmas tree."

I am not surprised, it happens every time.
