Hello Nexus,

It's been a few months since I was properly active on this awesome forum but I plan to post more again.

So I have a few bridgesii plants growing, all from the same mother plant (ergo genetically identical). Most of the specimens are growing really well, I'm happy with that, but A few of them have incurred Fasciation or at least what I think is fasciation but the rest are perfect.

Now one of the plants that was growing perfectly has developed it and this bothers me. It no longer grows vertically, just bulges out tumescently.

1. Is this of concern for ingestion?
2. What causes it and what can I do?

I want to use the specimen that has just deformed as a dose test because in the past I have found 35cm to be far too much of a dose. What are your bets on ten centimeters of cactus being active?

And what are your thoughts on eating the cactus flesh? Will it make the most of a small amount? And what are the implications in terms of dosage of combining it with MDMA later in the day? Both are phenethylamines, correct?

Thanks for the help, sorry for the dense post.

Magic.

Bridgesii is said to contain an MAOI, so this could possibly lead to serious problems if you try to combine it with MDMA (read: Serotonin syndrome). Smaller doses are potentiated by coffee.

I thought serotonin syndrome was only a problem with SSRI's?
And do you think it's a relevant concern with a small dose and long time period between the two?

Nope, it isn't limited to SSRIs. I'm not a MD, so i'm not qualified to give proper biomedical advice,..you might be ok, you might not - but if i were you, i would not chance it...i'm glad you asked here.

What weight?

Length isn't very informative.

I can't imagine the fasciation being an issue. Could be a response to some environmental stress (bugs, disease, physical damage) or maybe just a mutation. I would check it over for bugs- especially scale, mealybugs, and spider mites.

It is not uncommon with bridgesii to have some rib shifting during different times and seasons that is a lot like faciation. Some lots of bridgesii seed produce plants that do this more than others.

I agree that there is no issue.

For decent material expect that 200gm fresh is plenty.

I've had 100g fresh once and it was very mild, not really psychedelic but enjoyable.

Myself and others have taken 10-15 grams dry weight of bridgesii together with a high dose (300 mg) of MDMA. No one developed signs of hypertension or other unpleasant reactions, though the duration of the trip was very long (16+ hours).

Although there are rumors of an MAOI in bridgesii, I don't think it has ever been scientifically confirmed (if someone wants to dispute, I'm all ears!).

Do you think mealy bugs could cause fasciation? Because the mother of these cutting had a ad infection and occasionally one or two crop up on mine...

Well because of logistic constraints it looks like mdma and bridgesii will be happening on different days any way, thanks for the advice though.

I will post a report on this thread letting you know if my small dose works.

Best tip for getting rid of mealy bugs?

I would think mealybugs could do that. A Qtip dipped in rubbing alcohol works pretty well on them. Sometimes just having them outside on the ground in a garden area will put them in the right environment for predatory bugs like ladybugs and stuff to come find the mealies. You gotta be diligent and persistent with those little bastards though. Get out that q tip once a week. Even when you are sure you are rid of them.

Mealy bugs are a pain in the ass. I used to try and physically wipe them off with an isopropanol-soaked sponge, then microwave or boil the sponge to make sure you kill any eggs in there (they can spread easily to other plants!). You can also smother them in neem oil. I second what was said above - you have to be persistent and keep checking the plants weekly, even if you think you've gotten them all, you probably haven't.
