For me, personally, it's negative. I find that when I smoke everyday, I become a lot less social and more depressed/anxious. I also find that I prefer to hang out with people who smoke and I avoid hanging out with people that don't smoke. I could go on and on about how it has negatively affected me, but I want to hear how smoking everyday affects you guys.

p.s. I love smoking weed, but i hate smoking it everyday. do any of you have advice on how to smoke just every once in a while? I've tried before, but I always end up smoking everyday again lol Razz thanks y'all

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

it started out for me as a positive thing. I mean I opened up a lot when I started to smoke weed but after 5-6 years of that I was smoking like an ounce a week, and I felt like a complete burnout...so in the end it was definatly a negative thing.

Im fine smoking once or twice a month now..or even less. It's def not what it used to be for me anyway so I dont have the desire really.

Also I think daily cannnabis use for years really messed with my adrenals.

If you feel like it's a negative thing than just quit. Dont smoke for 6 months, worked for me. I love cannabis sure but I really just dont have the desire to smoke it frequently any longer as the effects seem to differ compared to when I was basically addicted to it and smoking it all day long with high tolerance.

Maybe for others they can smoke it all day ever day without any negative side effects..only you can really say what role it actually plays in your life. I find my use of the other psychedelics more benificial.

"I also find that I prefer to hang out with people who smoke and I avoid hanging out with people that don't smoke."

yeah that was one thing I started to dislike about myself. I couldnt even be happy without weed and I avoided people who didnt smoke chronically all day long also. I got tired of having stupid conversations with people I didnt even know if I liked aside from the fact that they also smoked cannabis.

Not that its not a great plant and all..

Thanks for the reply, Jamie. It started out as a positive thing for me too, helping me open up in high school and become more open-minded. Now it's just bringing me down. I'm excited for the day when I can say I only smoke once or twice a month Smile Was it hard for you to quit? I've quit for a month before, but I slowly started smoking again. Did you just stay away from it?

edit: your edit answered my questions lol

Daily use did a very nice thing in my life and I am still grateful for that.

Then it began to take me over;
then it began to create unwanted side effects.

Now I don't touch it anymore and I am also still grateful for that.

I can understand fine usage as a sort of condiment, very little puff on top of other substances, but as a general doctrine, no thanks.

Location: I can't tell exactly...It is pretty good though!
Its the same for me...
I believe its a plant that you can easily abuse, so that's why its common..
And anything that is abused, instead of used will have negative outcomes.
I am also in the same scale like Jamie now.. one or two times a month and if it happens..
Everything is in our mind, so if you want to quit you can! Smile
Try doing something new, or just stay away from it for a while..
For me, i couldn't expect myself being in a room that everyone smokes instead of me, but it happens now from time to time!
I hope everyone can experience the wonderful joy of taking and giving out LOVE!
Its really simple and free... try it!
Everything happens for a reason..

Doing anything too much will probably be negative... I smoked cannabis every day only for a short time in my life. Usually circumstances such as work and school just didn't allow for it to become too chronic (I always felt it was disrespectful to my boss to show up at work stoned).

I've seen a lot of people cause a lot of problems for themselves by doing it every day and I only knew one or two that managed to make their lives work really well like this.

That being said, socially, when I stopped smoking regularly I lost all my "friends" because I just didn't have any reason to hang out with them anymore. I became a lot more anti-social once I quit weed and I still don't know if I like it. Now a days - ten years later- it's a lot different. Whether you smoke weed or not doesn't make it easier or harder to socialize. It's not something that defines one group over another. I guess that's just kids' stuff.

I think heavy use of cannabis can be interesting for a while, for a phase, but usually it turns into a burden if not adapted to your inner growth and your outer circumstances.

All you need to quit is will power. Try it for at least 3 months. If you don't like it, you can always go back to smoking again Smile

It depends entirely on how much you are smoking every day.

If you are waking and baking and staying stoned all day then like everyone else noted it will eventually become a life drainer.

If however you smoke a little in the evenings after other things are taken care of I haven't found much problem.
For me the goldilocks zone (and it's different for everyone) is vaping 1-2 bowls or less a night. As soon as I creep up into the 3-4 times a night zone my memory and mood start fluctuating in negative ways.

Honestly though you have to consider how large of a dose you take in a day.

The ironic thing about weed is that the less you smoke of it, the better it is.
If your religion, faith, devotion, or self proclaimed spirituality is not directly leading to an increase in kindness, empathy, compassion and tolerance for others then you have been misled.

Joe hit the mail on the head. I've smoked for 28 years, at all kinds of different levels, and have settled on a similar "Goldilocks zone". It might help that my wife quit 12 years ago (she used to smoke me under the table), so I am constantly hanging out with at least one non-stoner.

One time a friend (who worked in a head shop, and now works with MAPS) said, as we got high: "Ever notice how the first buzz of the day is always the best?". It's largely true. So the later, the better.

Another good limit to set for yourself: don't ever drive stoned. Not that it makes you a worse driver, but when you get pulled over randomly- or when you clip the reckless kid on a bike that appeared out of nowhere- it sure is a good thing to not be buzzed, and have nothing in your car. So if you're like me and have a billion things to do each day, that pushes the first buzz to late afternoon or early evening.

I like to use it as a reward. Get all this daily stuff done, finish your phone calls, then reward yourself with that first light buzz. Then late in the evening, done with correspondence, finished with evening responsibilities, etc. pack another. Smoking before doing responsibility stuff just invites slacking and distraction. Why invite these negative weed-based habits when you can enjoy your buzz even more for taking care of everything first?

But if you can't find that balance, a long break could be in order. You should know what you need to do.

If you want to stop smoking I would suggest slowly winding down the frequency and amount of the cannabis you smoke, rather than just trying to start right where you want to be as an end result.

At one point I smoked multiple times throughout the day but now I don't allow myself more than 2-3 "sessions" daily. Personally I haven't noticed anything negative about daily use at all, and find it sparks inspiration in the most boring of things. In my free time, if I don't smoke I might spend a couple hours watching a movie or something, but if I do even the most mundane subjects become fascinating to learn about, and I find myself reading constantly. Just my experience.

I will admit that the urge to eat sometimes overpowers the whole dreamlike, open-minded, state, and I have spent more highs than I'd liked eating junk food and then taking a nap. Just the nature of the beast. Smile

cutting back just did not work for me..I would try and fail and just go smoke. Some people might have more success that way but for me I had to simply quit smoking pot completely for about 6 months. By that point I could easily smoke once a week, or once a month or w/e. It was not an issue after abstaining for so long that I felt normal in life without any cannabis. I had this idea that I needed to just smoke less, smoke once at night etc..at some point I drank ayahuasca and just realized I had to stop smoking it entirely.

It's nice to just have entire days where you are content to just be and enjoy life without feeling the need to get baked anyway.

The only reason I realized I had a problem like that and simply quit a habit that went from an ounce a week to nothing at all was because of an ayahuasca trip and many DMT trips I had leading up to that point. I just got into DMT and ayahuasca and one night I drank and realized I HAD to cut cannabis out entirely. Smoking once a night was not enough for me personally. It would have just been an excuse. It all depends on where you are at personally. I woke up the next day and gave all my cannabis away and did not look back. It was hard for about a week. I drank ayahuasca every 7 days and usualy smoked DMT once a week too after I quit smoking pot and it really helped me to not feel any sort of a need for it.

It is weird how the effects have changed though. I would not have a problem smoking a small dose even once a night at this point, but the thing is cannabis is boring now and not all that pleasant at times..and if I smoke enough to be really stoned it makes me feel sketchy. So the subjective effect has definatly shifted for me into something I dont find useful even for things like art most of the time. The one thing that cannabis seems to always be good for though in enhancing sex..it's an amazing aphrodesiac. It can also enhance things like surfing and skimboarding at times for me still but I dont use it that way too often.
Long live the unwoke.

Its a tricky thing, cannabis use.

I used to smoke all day everyday. Now I typically only smoke at night, when my responsibilities are through. I've slowly learned that smoking cannabis before anything can enhance it, but it is usually short - lived; like burning the candle at both ends.

And the less often I use it, the less I have to use at once, the more enjoyable it is.

But sometimes I let it get away from me. Old habits are hard to break.

Clearly "too much" will mean different things for different people, but as a rule of thumb, I agree that recreational cannabis works better when used occasionally. Medicinal cannabis may be quite a different story, though.

I have not used cannabis heavily (in a few periods I would smoke the equivalent of a bowl or two a day, but not more) and currently I use it, but not every day, and only small amounts. I'm trying to use it with a specific purpose, avoiding any inertia. And it's nice to find ways to integrate it so it works along well with other things I do.

Take dreaming, for example. There are many reports of people claiming it negatively affects their dream recall and dream work, and that's my case. But cannabis, with proper timing, can actually help deep and lucid dreaming. Cannabis suppresses REM sleep, so you can use cannabis to encourage REM rebound.

I smoke for a couple nights, then stop for two or three days. Some 48h+ after the last cannabis use, the time you spend in REM sleeping stage increases beyond usual, to make up for the suppressed REM sleep of the last nights. And the nights I smoke a sprinkle of cannabis, it's more effective and enjoyable, as joedirt put really well.

But if anything, I see myself using it progressively less in the future, not more.

I've been smoking daily for a few years now, give or take a day or two now and then and the occasional week break. I had ego death last week with dmt and I haven't smoked weed since. I've known for a couple months now that pot isn't doing me any good anymore, and just leads to social anxiety and eating too much unhealthy stuff, while my true self gets kinda depressed about that knowing I could be so much better. So yeah, it has almost been a week since I've smoked pot and I don't want to go back for a while, for real this time.

I've quit in the past and when a week came I was like "Yea I'll smoked a bowl every couple days" which then leads back into the multiple times per day, daily thing again. Now, since that ego death, which was soo real and powerful, I can truly say I don't want to smoke for a while. I am already much more clear minded and motivated to get shit done, and to socialize. I used to think people who said pot was addictive were full of shit, but really, I now believe it is.

Oh, one more thing. I now dream every night and they are pretty vivid. That's a plus. I love mary jane but we are taking an extended break from each other for now.

Great thread.

My experience is much the same as jamie's. I used to smoke it everyday, constantly, from the time I woke up until the time I passed out at night. Unlike Enoon, I've had a work environment that is conducive to chronic all-day use. I work in restaurant kitchens Very happy and if anyone else here has experience in a kitchen, they know that it's a haven for stoners. I would often smoke right before work, on breaks, and if I was closing that night, we would smoke again once the dining room was closed before we started to wrap and clean up the line.

From the age of about 14 until just a couple years ago, I smoked everyday, as often as I could. At one point I was consuming about an ounce a week, like jamie. When you smoke it that much, you walk around in a fog, not really living, just dull and uninterested in things, almost total apathy for things you once held dear. By the end I hated myself. I have always had issues with depression and I always thought my cannabis use was helping me overcome those dark feelings. Not to say it didn't, because for a lot of years, it did help me tremendously. But I abused it so badly that it became a crutch that I learned to despise.

I took a full two years off, didn't touch it. I came back to it and it was like a rediscovery almost. Now I usually prefer to eat it rather than smoke it. I find the effects more interesting and pleasant. Lately I have taken up smoking it again, mostly because of my social life. But now I have much more control over my usage, and I can just take a toke or two and it's enough, and I don't feel the need to smoke my brains out completely. Also, I am a vocalist in a band now and keeping my respiratory system and throat healthy are very important. I've even shied away from smoking changa lately, even when I only have to take a small amount to get where I want to be (60 - 80mg). Pharmahuasca and ayahuasca have begun to take a much more important role over smoked routes of administration.

My advice would be to take as long as you think you need to off. Completely stop for a good long period, and when you feel like it's time to revisit your old friend, come back and try to establish a different relationship with it. If you always smoke bong hits now, try a joint. If you like bowls of hash, try vaping some herb. Switch it up Pleased

Also, I wanted to share that Salvia and mushrooms helped me see my cannabis abuse for what it was. Without those deep psychedelic experiences I might still be a useless stoner. Sometimes it takes a good rattling for you to change such deeply ingrained habits. I do feel that my DMT use is a great tool in moderating my cannabis intake as well. Most of my band mates are pretty heavy smokers, usually daily. But I can actually be around them and not feel the need to toke with them. And I've opened them up to the whole oral ingestion of cannabis and they love it Very happy I suppose I do make some particularly yummy edibles Very happy

All depends on the person and situation. Is it killing your budget? Making you lethargic? Anti social and lazy? Do you not feel well unless you smoke? Obviously if its affecting you in undesirable ways then you need to either stop or metaprogram some alternative rhythm that is more healthy and productive.

I use it every day and have on and off for 12 years. Mostly just a bowl of hash out of my chillum after work in the evening nowadays. Sometimes I will just smoke and write all day when I have the free time to do so. I don't like using it when I have meetings or other important things to do. That's what coffee is for.

I love cannabis. Find a balance that works best for you. A lot of people find over the years it's just not for them. If you need a neurochemical reset to get back on track drink some ayahuasca it will make it easier.

It has incredible uses besides getting high. My friend got off of half a dozen pharmaceuticals that werent even working for his high blood pressure by eating a tiny amount every night. Now he's healthy and down to normal levels. His doctor is baffled. Just one of many examples of alternative uses for it.

I think it depends on you and what you want out of life. It's been a great ally for me all these years, but I do have to be careful to not get pulled too far into it's world.

From this and other posts I find the daily use issue to be something that more often than not, is looked on as an addiction or problem that people have moved away from, or feel the need to move away from. For thirteen years,I have used cannabis daily, and I have never suffered any adverse effects. I guess in a way, I have built my education and career around being able to smoke daily, and many of my best friends, even those who don't smoke anymore, were brought together by cannabis.

It doesn't make me anti-social, in fact quite the opposite. My wife does not smoke, and neither do many of my close friends. Marijuana has helped me to be creative and expressive, helped me to overcome addiction and depression, relieves stress and hypertension, works as a very effective sleep aid, and improves my general demeanor and outlook on life.

I think if you look at cannabis as a medicine, rather than something purely recreational, and try to see its benefits, you will not feel guilty about using it. Of course this is only my opinion, and everyone has to look at how it fits into daily life. If it causes problems with work, school, family, friendship, mentality,or health, then you have to look at changing your habits. As for me, my love for Marijuana is undieing. In fact, I am about to smoke right now.Love

It's different for everyone and sort of hard to really figure out your optimal frequency. I used to smoke everyday and I loved it, I thought I was happy and everything was great. Besides the costs haha. But once I stopped for a few months I began seeing things a little differently. Slowly your consciousness is affected long term. Just know that you are changing your perception, wether it is more accurate or less accurate is unknown to me.

I suggest that if you smoke everyday, take at least 1 month break once in a while. To re-evaluate your use, and so you can decide without the influence of the plant wether or not you want to continue using the plant. If you can function and are happy with everyday smoking, then no one should be able to tell you otherwise or control your choices. But many times one becomes unaware of the other types of happiness that can exist under normal waking consciousness.

The less frequent you smoke, the more bang for your buck. If its about efficiency, is say a good balance is once a week. That way you have much less tolerance and don't need to buy as much weed. Also, the experience is, to me, is more meaningful if it is occasional.
We are surprisingly similar.

I used to smoke everyday for years. In hindsight it was a complete waste of my life as
I could have done something productive instead.
Not until you stop for a while will you get out of the "smoke bubble" and actually see that
the world have turned while you where away.
"Stoned" people hanging out with other "stoned" people don't seem to notice the world passing
by as they are constantly living in the "now".

Most people who say that "everything is fine" and "it doesn't affect me" does not know
what it looks like from outside the "hash bubble".
Did you ever meet a "stoner" that doesn't remember what you talked about the last time you
met? How long you have been away? how old is your child? who are always talking about the same
things?...are you one of those people?

Very often we get distracted from a state of now when our minds
wander trough past and future while we try to listen to music or maybe a walk trough nature etc.
So in those cases (at least for me) there can sometimes be good to have
something like cannabis to tell me how green the leaves are and how excellent that saxophone played
without the thought of having to get up early to work monday morning.

Constantly being in that sate though seem to severely inhibit personal growth.
That was true for me and a lot of people who I have known and met.

There are probably people out there who smoke daily who can still develop and be creative and all that but I have
never met one from the thousands of joints I have shared.
Those kind of people, if smoking at all have been casual smokers.
