tl;dr -> Suggest the best videos (standalone or series) depicting historical human eras that you have found in your life. ~10,000 BC - 1950 A.D. Relevant examples are in the last paragraph at the bottom of this post.
Howdy folks. I know this is probably not the most appropriate forum on the net to ask and I also know that I have not been a steady presence or even reading much of anything recently on this forum. But I love and respect the people here and I couldn't decide on any other community I'd rather ask.
My current intellectual pursuit (and ultimate purpose of the thread) -- I'm trying to expand my grasp of human history from around 200 years ago to about 30,000 years ago. Not from any one particular ideology or religion. The evolution of civilizations and culture and art and politics and science and alchemy and philosophy and literature and music and nature and other such things.
I apologize for the poor phrasing and disorganized structuring I am using. I know I could make it more succinct and clear, but at the stage of life (and current state of mind) I find myself in it seems a Herculean task. I am smattered. Focused on too much. Unable or unwilling to pursue many of my accrued dreams/ideas/goals. Unable to focus on small discrete tasks. But my hunger for learning continues. Thus I turn to the Nexus -- love, knowledge, and community incarnate!
More thanks than you can know. I love you people. If you are reading this, have a f***ing fantastic day/week/year/life!
Examples! I'm looking for series like James Burke's "Connections" or Carl Sagan's "Cosmos". Perhaps in the vein of the 1969 BBC production "Civilisation", though that particular host is a tad elitist for my tastes he does manage to convey some solid, digestible information. Other possible example is a 2004 French film called "Genesis". If any of ya'll have not seen Burke's "Connections" (the first, not 2nd or 3rd series particularly) or "Genesis" may I strongly recommend them.
