I just wanted to share some of the songs that have changed my life, because I listened to them while under the influence of drugs, either to help me out of a bad trip, or to inspire me.

Dave Matthews- Jimi Thing- I listened to this song while quite paranoid in a friends car heavily stoned, while my buddies were smoking in the car and driving in a quite populated area. This song is what calmed me down.

Ani DiFranco- Work Your Way Out- I listened to this song while on a 5 gram mushroom journey. It was the only song I remember throughout the night. Me and a buddy wrote it down in a notebook (aside from all of the wild scribbles and ramblings). It is a beautiful song and especially intense while on 5 grams of some fine shrooms.

Sing Along- The Blue Man Group (w/Dave Matthews). I just heard this song yesterday, while shrooming with some friends. The sky was beautiful, the shrooms were awesome. The music blew my mind. The first thought I had when I woke up this morning was "Sing Along" This will probabaly my favorite song for a while. At least for the next month I'm sure.

I was just wondering what songs have affected you guys/and gals while grooving with exogenous nuerotransmitters (ie drugs). Also, I don't care about the songs that you just like to listen to while tripping. I want to know of what songs blew your mind and changed your life. What songs had profound impacts on your psyche while under the influence of psychedelics. And also if you can put a little blurb as to it's meaning and how it felt or effected you.

These are three of my all-time favorite songs to trip to.

Not exactly the same thing nor can I really share any media with this reply but I wanted to chime in and just say that playing music while in these states with instruments and with people has probably been more life changing / mind blowing than synesthetically experiencing other compositions because it is something that occurs only once, never again, and is a direct reflection of the psyche of the participants. It goes in phase with the trip. You can learn so much about yourself and created surroundings by doing this. It is definitely something I highly recommend psychedelic people, especially musicians, experiment with. Even if it's just your voice or hands. Myself and others I have played for and with have wound up in tears by doing this. It can be profoundly healing. Every rhythm, every note, every little piece of silence resonates anything that ever was and ever will be and you can ride the symphony into a new version of yourself by clearing cobwebs from the soul musically. Just about as refreshing as an orgasm but in a different way.

If I am on enough acid and the music is turned up loud enough it doesn't even matter what it is.
I am at school in la la land.
But if you've never found yourself in a sea of souls on a psytrance dance floor self-assembled just for a night on the beach you might want to make arrangements.
Minimal techno, house, and electro are great for this, too.
I learned how to see sounds by spending way too much time in front of speakers on acid.
Now I am half-deaf but permanently blissed out. ;]

When I went to COSM in NYC (I have a thread about this somewhere hidden in this place) at one point while dancing with LED poi Shpongle's "Dorset Perception" came on and everybody went ape shit. I remember this old man was sitting with his djembe at the front of the crowd and he picked up his chillum and smoked DMT. I had never done DMT before but I knew exactly what he was doing. Not long afterward I had an out of body experience and was looking down at myself from up above but only for a bit before zooming back. I've said it before and I will say it again- the next time this happens I AM LOOKING UP. Not down. As per Alexs advice... he discusses this in one of his orgiastic essays.

I've never really felt the same coming back from that experience and that song and I don't even like Shpongle at all. I am going to turn that tune on right now though...

I know what you mean about creating music while in altered states. A Mandala of Music That is my trip report about how I became a guitar while on a heavy DMT trip. It was the 2nd best trip I've ever had in my life. I think I'm going to have to get my musical friends together and trip and make music. DMT doesn't seem the best for a composition, but I could see high doses of shrooms being absolutely amazing with friends playing together. I'm going to do that. Thanks for the inspiration.

Mushrooms are great for this. So, so, so great! I can't believe what I am capable of creating musically when in that state. TALK ABOUT HUMBLING. Ayahuasca, mescaline, LSD, and cannabis are amazing too.

It may seem daunting but I highly advocate improv soul flow while in hyperspace either for yourself or for others or everyone all in at the same time. Whether it's vocals, just a drum, a guitar, a flute, or whatever. Unbelievable things happen. Experiment until the blockages that seek to make you uncomfortable vanish. I absolutely don't have the words for this I just have the experiences which I cherish unlike anything else. It's making love on a whole different level.

I have been meaning to break out the guitar while tripping. It's been a long time. I'll try to work through the blockage, as you say House. That's exactly what I felt whenever I've tried it.

I play in a band and we regularly have psychedelic sessions now. When we first formed, my band mates were more into smoking cannabis and maybe eating some mushrooms while watching a movie. I opened them up to psychedelics and especially creating/improvising music while under the influence.

Last weekend I brewed some ayahuasca and we had a music session. It was unbelievable. At one point I felt like I was possessed by some spirit...my voice sounded alien in my own ears, as well as my friends. They said they had never heard me express such emotion before, and it was a very emotionally significant moment for me. My bassist was a little frightened by it, because he said some of the words I was singing weren't always English, and they didn't sound like jibberish either. Recently, having been reading a lot of literature on psychedelics and ayahuasca in particular, they brought up the question of if what I was singing was some sort of icaros. Some sort of shamanic channeling. I laughed at it, and I still do, but the more I think about it, the more intriguing the possibility is


Don't confuse patience during the creative process for laziness Maynard has said that he wants to record a new album, it's Danny and Adam that want to perfect their portion of the music. I don't blame them whatsoever...people are incredibly critical of that band and I would want everything I put out to be absolutely perfect (or as close to perfection as can be expected)

I'd rather wait and have an album that is utter brilliance than have them release crap every two or three years. Same can be said for any band I listen to.

Speaking of Tool....here's the song that changed my life.


While this song played, I used to lay on my water bed in my room and watch the stucco ceiling flow like a river, running down my walls and onto the carpeted floor. I had several different color of flood lights (red, blue, green, purple) that I used in my room, only one at a time. The red made cigarette heaters look yellow The blue made the room feel cold and calm.

I once ate five hits of blotters and lay on that bed in that room listening to this song on repeat for the entire trip. It still remains one of the most significant moments of my life.
