I would love to have my own tank, this is a dream of mine.

That's the spirit Lichen. I had one for a few years back in College. It was awesome. I'd use it for sleep sometimes and survive for days on end with only about 3-4 hours sleep a night. The only thing that freaked me out was that I was living in Los Angeles at the time and was in the tank during a medium sized earthquake. I instantly went into deep panic about, "what if" scenarios of being trapped in there naked. Other than that it was bliss. I had an interesting model in that it folded down into a bed that you could put a mattress on top of and sleep on it. Kind of like the Westfalia campers on the Volkswagens. There are plans to build relatively cheap ones online or shop around for a used one. If you really want it, make it happen.

It was great, extremely relaxing. I was a little disappointed that I didn't have any kind of deep experience, but I'm sure if I practiced meditation more I would have been able to go very deep.

Regardless, it felt very good for my body and I could hear all kinds of cracks and pops going on in my body for the first hour or so. I could hear my eyelids opening and closing which was interesting Smile

Now that I know what to expect I think I'm going to take some harmalas before I go in next time Very happy

Highly recommend trying it but don't get your hopes up for a mystical experience, not saying it won't happen but you gotta work for it.

My thinking too, it need some boost. Not to much, you dont wanna drink that water Very happy Like me, I was to expecting voices and stuff and going deep and being confronted with personal and compulsive thoughts. but nada, I just was laying in a dark room with water chilling. I guess reading to much is not good.

I've never tried this, but I would absolutely love to. It's a dream of mine as well to eventually have my own tank. Just the thought of closing off every bit of external stimuli causes waves of calm to come over me.

I doubt they have any near me, but I'll hopefully have the money to purchase one within the next 5 years.

I'm excited to read posts from people who have really taken this experience to the next level.

Peace and Happy Journeys Smile

Thank you much! There is one in Minneapolis, so I think I'm going to add a trip to "The Wellness Center" to my vacation there to see Ott on October 11th. I'm stoked!

Thanks again for the link, archaic_architect. I'll post on my experiences in mid October.

Hey I've been to the Wellness Center in Minneapolis! I used to drive up from Rochester every so often to get a message and then float.

Oh, and just for the record, a floatation tank doesn't necessarily give you unique experiences, but is a great tool to help reduce sensory noise making it MUCH easier to meditate and/or reach the mind-awake/body-asleep state, the "launch pad" for lucid dreaming, out-of-body experience, and psychic phenomenon.

Sensory Deprivation Floatation Tanks FTW!

Ahhhh... I should really have one at home. Got into it first back in the 80's after watching Altered States... in fact, as the new age movement took hold in California, a chain of Altered States Floatation Centers and Mind Gyms opened up. A bit steep, but I was able to work out some cool deals for regular access with the guy who ran the one near my place. ;-) Herbal medicine makes good friends.

Anyway, since then I have had times with regular access and entire years without a single float. The last time I went was in a swanky new 5 star wellness hotel, and their tanks were actually not Sensory Dep, but rather little rooms with a lot of space, and the entire ceiling as a video monitor playing Hubble space pics and whatnot with a brainwave entrainment soundtrack and a deep voiced dude whispering affirmations. Was surprisingly cool actually. A new twist for sure. I liked it so much I went straight back in and did a second session directly after the first. ;-)

Like many of you have probably realized, it is not a miracle pill. It is merely a powerful tool to aid you in your meditation. You still have to be able to meditate on your own. Not unlike Light & Sound Brain Machines, it merely allows you to go further in a much shorter amount of time. So you can reach states that might normally take you 30 min or an hour on your own in perhaps 5 min. It is also likely that you can reach higher and deeper states than are possible without the aid.

Seeing as this IS the Nexus, I can heartily recommend Sensory Deprivation, Flotation, Light & Sound, and all the other Mind Gym type stuff ..... with ENTHEOGENS. Wow. Seriously.

Only constrainment being that if you are using a public facility... you are in public. Thus, the level of psychotropics you can add to the experience is limited by the level you can handle in such environs without attracting too much unwanted attention. Low level dissociation (like can be had from a nice harmala dose) is generally pretty safe bet to significantly boost the mediation while still enabling you to function en route to and from the venue so to speak.
"Curiouser and curiouser..." ~ Alice

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it." ~ Buddha

And, it's common knowledge that it takes two sessions in the tank before you emerge as a proto-human.Big grin

A small dose of LSD while in a sensory deprivation tank worked out well for me. I was floating in an infinite blackness while entities listened in without being seen through the veil.

Hi everyone!

There' a place to float in town with an Oasis tank that has two holes towards the head end of the tank. The shop is open through the evenings, but we've recently "sprung forward" with daylight savings here, and even with the light off in the room and the curtain drawn it's not totally dark in the tank. I was thinking that cutting holes in the sides of a cardboard box and setting it over the holes might diffuse the light down to (close to) total darkness while still allowing proper air flow. Any one have any better ideas? or know if those holes are in fact to allow breathable air into the tank?

Thanks, SpartanII. I'm looking for a house now where I can put a DIY or used tank (the commercial one is pretty cost prohibitive, plus you can only experiment so far in a public setting Wink ), so cheap and easy fixes are on the menu for the last few commercial floats. Tubes for passive air exchange might even work, then just cover the holes with a shirt. The chick who owns the tank is pretty cool- I'll ask her for suggestions, or even a night float appointment. Loving floating- can't wait to experiment further!!
