hello

some 25kg of magnesium sulphate is easily available, there is so much of the stuff that one can bathe in it (and do Very happy) but how readily can it be replaced for table salt in the teks?

specifically im looking at the harmala salt precipitation and cybs hybrid a/b tek.

dont know if anyone has looked into this, this may not even be a viable option but if its around and can be used then that means one less trip out to the salt fields to pick up a few kilos of the eatting kind.

it may not even be a sane consideration buy if anyone has an opinion i would love to hear it.

thank you.

I'd be very careful; none has ever reported using magnesium sulphate salt for harmala precipitation. Might work, but how knows? Harmala precipitation is based on the low solubility of harmala hydrochloride salts in cold aqueous solutions. Addition of Magnesium sulphate would, in theory promote the formation of harmala sulphate salts, whose behaviour and solubilities are largely unknown. But you're welcome to try in a small amount and report back.

As for cyb's tek I guess magnesium sulphate could be used to same effect as common table salt, but darn, table salt is so cheap and readily available that nobody has tried to find an alternative substitute in the (admittedly short!) history of this tek. Again, you might as well try it side by side with table salt and report back?

ok thanks i wanted to ask.

im just trying to pull a macgyver or something akin, huge bag of one kind of salt laying around, i was wondering if it could be used.

i dont have anyway to test to resulting substance without going to one of the labs so dont know how sound it would be, but it is something curious none the less.

thank you infundibulum.
