Every time i hear stuff that people have done using ableton their [production has been pretty good even though some of them don't have a clue about a production i.e eq, compression etc yet when i use cubase it's a full time job trying to get anything sounding decent production wise! Ive been thinking of changing DAW and i think ableton 9 is the one

Ableton is amazing , excited for 9 for sure The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible. Arthur C. Clarke http://vimeo.com/32001208

Forgot about this sorry, yes it is pretty great. I switched from nuendo and reason to ableton after seeing this video Really glad I did, its just the whole session view with clips thats different from most sequencers and does inspire more creativity. Got it last week and im very impressed, some of the new devices are great fun theres loads of them and loads of samples too which are all really good quality, lot of glitchy stuff which has been great fun, my friend and I are both delighted so far. You can beatbox and use a tool that will convert your audio to a drum machine, you can sing and it will convert your singing to midi, not always right but it gives you an idea its well cool, just taking a break

I'll be upgrading from 8 to 9 suite rather soon, depending on how long I can live without upgrading my komplete.
I'll never stop using cubase though. There's something very rewarding about throwing back and forth between the 2. Ableton for sure seems to have an influence on my sound, but I hella embrace that.
Can't wait to get my teeth stuck into M4L though, that's for sure!

Yes because its open source theres tons of cool stuff out there. I only got max for live for Mu the touchscreen controller for ableton on lemur then got access to loads of interesting devices. I dont have a clue about all that max stuff but my mates learning some just now, not really interested just glad theres so many people out there that are that create these amazing things!

I've been trying to get to grips with Max and PD for about a month now. No way near there yet, but step at a time I think I can do some interesting things. More interested in modding different elements of live than making my own synths and bits tbh. Anyone tried the audio to midi function yet? Apparently there's a feature where you can convert beat boxing to drum midi... for novelty's sake alone... that sounds like it would blow my mind

I hate to steal ableton's thunder, but as it's kind of similar in concept I thought I'd piggy back this on here. http://www.bitwig.com/bitwig-studioSupposedly its been designed from the ground up to be everything ableton users want from ableton that haven't been implemented. I can see a few cool features in this video alone that look rather impressive. Still though on this night I've been writing a tune in ableton as is rather common these days and I just love it

I've given it a go. The wave to midi feature is really awesome, I noodled a small bit with my guitar and it was pretty impressive, even applies velocity (based on gain/level I presume). The EQs also have built in spectrometers and you can see LFOs play out visually in front of you. The compressor has a serious upgrade in quality as well. I am a complete and utter novice and don't even consider myself a musician, but I've had lots of fun playing with synths like Massive/FM8/Sylenth etc. and sort of learned some basic sound design. I have a track that I've worked on feat. Alan Watts if anyone wants to give a listen... It's pretty heavy and very amateurish but if anyone is interested perhaps I should post it to an appropriate section? EDIT: Above mentioned track has been posted to the Music Bin. He who knows nothing retains the capacity to know everything

Jebus help out dude lol Buy an ipad, swear you wont regret it, not only can you buy moog snyths and other cools apps you can plug into ableton you can also get the ultimate touchscreen controller lemur, also griid lets you have a touch screen midi editor. Ive recently had a few shots of some hardware synths, a virus and a korg and theyre good but they take some learning like any synth and the price is pretty hefty, unlike the moog for ipad which sounds pretty amazing for $30. Really I want a mac then probably another ipad as the amount you can do with the ipad compared to a single stand alone synth for me isnt comparable. Audio to midi has worked pretty well for me so far too, so has the drums to midi though not tried the beatboxing yet maybe try that tonight, so many things to do so little time haha

I don't see a big advantage to upgrade yet, but i'm not that early adopter. I already had the Glue, which I think is awesome and Max is a little to techie for me. If i'll dive into that kind of things I'll forget to make music . I agree with infinite I on the iPad. I use several of the synths on it a lot. Epic synth is a real nice emulation of one of my most favorite hardware synths the Juno 106 (which will never leave me) Also the iMS-20 is a fat synth for the iPad platform. Also if you have hardware synths there are good programmers for iPad for a lot of them. I'm still more analog minded but I really like the iPad as a music device.
