Hello everyone,

I recently had my first experience with 'magic mushrooms' and found it an extremely relaxing and satisfying experience, much preferable in every way to alcohol in my opinion. However, my biggest fear with the mushrooms was not knowing where they came from and what they might have on them, so I began to explore the option of growing my own.

I've been looking around the the internet for somewhere to post questions as I learn, and after reading several posts and guides here I wanted to become a member. I hope to learn as much as I can while I begin to grow my own mushrooms, and then be able to pass that on to other people who join!

Thank, Smile

Welcome to the Nexus!

This can be a concerning thing when taking mushrooms, for I have actually gotten a batch that contained a bad mushroom...made for a very rough and sick adventure. Made me want to learn to grow my own, never got around to it though due to people I live with being against growing anything.

However, I have done the research into it, and its not easy. Its very time consuming and takes a while for them to be ready, but I can not imagine the feelings of joy that would come from successfully being rewarded with a nice fresh batch of some of the more potent ones you have ever had! Remember, the better you do with it and the more you put in, the more and better product that you will get out in the end!

Best of luck to you, and post some pictures around here of the process when ya get a chance! Thumbs up

Mushrooms are amazing! Don't be surprised if they aren't always so gentle. For me, they are the teacher that can be hard and slap me in the face when I need it. Don't be discouraged when this happens. In my opinion, it is the greatest strength of this teacher.

Welcome Lizbert!

I'm also a huge fungi fan.

I would suggest starting here... http://www.mushroomvideos.com/

Enough info can be had for free to make it all work and for $10 you can get ALL the vids. It's VERY useful in my opinion.

I'm no pro but I know a a few things - always willing to help with Psilocybe cubensis cultivation questions.

This is true. You usually have to pay some price for them to teach you something, and that usually is some kind of discomfort. Once it passes though, its one of the most beautiful and enlightening things that can happen to you.Big grin

Welcome to the Nexus lizbert!! Very happy

I am actually gonna start growing them soon. I started growing mescaline cacti as well. It is very rewarding to grow your own entheogens.

Keep on participating and posting here and you will become a full member after a while. It has it's benefits. Just stick to the attitude page.

Fungi and I have an interesting relationship. What started off as a way to know my source and if they were safe has grown into being a grower and hunter of many types of mushrooms. They have really brought me back to nature over the past two years. They are truly fascinating creatures to learn about, and you end up inadvertently learning about other plants, activities, and whatnot the deeper you delve into them. I would recommend Paul Stamets' TED Talks for a sample of what I mean when I say they are amazing creatures.
Anywho, welcome. This site has provided me with so muh great information in the short time I've been here, and I hope it does the same for you.

Thank you all for your welcomes!

I've taken a look at some videos and lots of instructions on how to grow, but the process still seems daunting. Thinking of trying a "pre-made" kit first to watch it. Any thoughts?

Saw some on http://www.magicmushroom...hroom-Spawn-Kit-p23.html that seemed okay, but it's so hard to tell the quality of the spores!

Your getting into a more grey area of the law when getting pre-made grow kits. The spores are not illegal because they dont contain Psilocybin or Psilocin, however it becomes illegal once one inoculates something with the spores...so you can see where the trouble comes in with buying a kit intended for the growth of these mushrooms. Check local laws.

I've checked into local laws here and the kits themselves are perfectly legal. I'm more worried about a kit as I still don't know the quality of spores themselves and putting the time and effort into growing my own won't help if the spores are bad!

I've done some more reading again and I think I might try some of the cultivation techniques involving the PC sanitizing, as I have one kicking around and the rest I believe I can whip up from stuff lying around the house.

My next concern is if there is an easy way to tell a "bad" mushroom from a "good" one?

It is really easy to do without a kit. There are plenty of good easy to follow guides on the shroomery.org. Also, find posts by a guy named roger rabbit. He's pretty much the resident expert. It is pretty easy to tell if they are bad or not. They turn nasty colors and just downt look right. They also have a contamination database over there with pictures. It is a neat hobby and like I said it led me to grow shiitakes and oysters, and it led me to hunting them as well which teaches you so much about the world we live in.

^^ Roger Rabbit is definately the one to listen to when it comes to this. Search for him on the shroomery, and any info that he has posted about growing should be listened to. I learned everything I know on growing from his posts and videos. Very helpful.
