hey everyone, first a huge thanks to everyone for sharing such valuable info! made my first STB a complete breeze. except for the lye i got stuck to my face next to my eye. no biggie but obviously could've been. at least i learnt from it. my face will be covered next time.

this site has really impressed me not only with the incredible info but also the attitude toward noobs. alot of individuals and whole forums don't like to share their info with anyone let alone noobskis and you may remain a noob for years in some peoples eyes. my hat is off to all of you. well done on creating a highly successful forum and forum enviroment.

my main interest is cacti, other ethnos and bonsai.

anyways i have my first appointment with dr dimitri. i'm hoping it will help "de-frag" my system. been feeling a bit fragmented lately and the signs pointed towards dimitri.

Wow - please be careful brother. Lye in the eye can literally blind you for life. You don't want to mess around. Best way to extract is being sober, well fed, well rested, empty bladder and bowel, wearing full clothing with long sleeves and shoes. Use full protection painter type goggles, use a double cartridge respirator (if you are smelling the fumes you are doing it wrong). In addition, I recommend going to the hardware/paint store to get some special, thick gloves that are rated to work with lye and solvents.

Your safety and health are of utmost importance. You get one go around in this life - let's hope it's a long, safe and insightful one, okay?

Don't worry about being new here - many of us feel like eterna-noobs. I certainly am when it comes to DMT, even though I've done it hundreds if not thousands of times. I'm grateful for this fact, as my every day life sometimes lacks for novelty or only throws negative novelty curves at me.

Ohh man!! Lye in the eye is not good. You're lucky it didn't happen. As Pandora and I know, vission impairment/blindness is not fun.

You are correct. We try to maintain a great attitude here and keep all conversation polite and not too argumentative. We all here share and we encourage members to engage in the forums but also do research for themselves rather than being spoonfed information. thanks for the concern and advise. i thought my sun glasses would protect me but obviously they are vulnerable on the sides. my hair was in my face and when i wiped it away with the back of my hand/glove there was a wee lye granule on my glove that stuck to me no more than half inch from my eye. got a nice little burn that shows me just how close i got. scary stuff.

lessons learnt: buy some friggin safety goggles and wear a hat to keep hair out of my face next time.

Please treat lye exposure with aggressive rinsing with water - don't just rub it in. Rinse with water until it no longer feels slippery. That slippery feeling is layers of your skin coming off.

Also, please keep some vinegar on hand for immediate neutralization of spills.

Oh damn!! A close one. One time I was doing an a/b. I was pouring the basified solution and naptha into my sep. funnel, and i realized the bottom valve was open and it was pouring out. . Luckily I was doing this over the sink.

My feet would have been messed up for a while if not!
Just be more careful in the future!

i'll try to expect the unexpected as much as i can next time. as soon as i felt the granule i grabbed my bottle of vinegar and poured it over my face then had a long shower followed by another vinegar face wash.

i did notice the slippery sensation you mentioned when i was doing my clean up. good to know thats what it is.
