“It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses, to remember that the dullest and most uninteresting person you talk to may one day be a creature which, if you saw it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship… There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal.” - C. S. Lewis

"What's so unpleasant about being drunk?"

Quote:Remember, we are all affecting our world every moment, whether we mean to or not. Our actions and states of mind matter, because we're so deeply interconnected with one another. Working on our own consciousness is the most important thing that we are doing at any moment, and being Love is the supreme creative act. ♥ -Ram Dass

Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself, I am large, I contain multitudes. Walt Whitman Listen to a man of experience: thou wilt learn more in the woods than in books. Trees and stones will teach thee more than thou canst acquire from the mouth of a master. St. Bernard

Quote:“Fortunately, some are born with spiritual immune systems that sooner or later give rejection to the illusory worldview grafted upon them from birth through social conditioning. They begin sensing that something is amiss, and start looking for answers. Inner knowledge and anomalous outer experiences show them a side of reality others are oblivious to, and so begins their journey of awakening. Each step of the journey is made by following the heart instead of following the crowd and by choosing knowledge over the veils of ignorance.” -Henri Bergson

In the province of the mind, what one believes to be true is true or becomes true, within certain limits to be found experientially and experimentally. These limits are further beliefs to be transcended. -- John Lilly Images of broken light, Which dance before me like a million eyes, They call me on and on...

Quote:MANIFESTO: THE MAD FARMER LIBERATION FRONT
Love the quick profit, the annual raise, vacation with pay. Want more of everything made. Be afraid to know you neighbors and to die. And you will have a window in your head. Not even your future will be a mystery any more. Your mind will be punched in a card and shut away in a little drawer. When they want you to buy something they will call you. When they want you to die for profit they will let you know. So, friends, every day do something that won't compute. Love the Lord. Love the world. Work for nothing. Take all that you have and be poor. Love someone who does not deserve it. Denounce the government and embrace the flag. Hope to live in that free republic for which it stands. Give your approval to all you cannot understand. Praise ignorance, for what man has not encountered he has not destroyed. Ask the questions that have no answers. Invest in the millennium. Plant sequoias. Say that your main crop is the forest that you did not plant, that you will not live to harvest.
Say that the leaves are harvested when they have rotted into the mold. Call that profit. Prophesy such returns. Put your faith in the two inches of humus that will build under the trees every thousand years. Listen to carrion--put your ear close, and hear the faint chattering of the songs that are to come. Expect the end of the world. Laugh. Laughter is immeasurable. Be joyful though you have considered all the facts. So long as women do not go cheap for power, please women more than men. Ask yourself: Will this satisfy a woman satisfied to bear a child? Will this disturb the sleep of a woman near to giving birth? Go with your love to the fields. Lie easy in the shade. Rest your head in her lap. Swear allegiance to what is nighest your thoughts. As soon as the generals and politicos can predict the motions of your mind, lose it. Leave it as a sign to mark the false trail, the way you didn't go. Be like the fox who makes more tracks than necessary, some in the wrong direction. Practice resurrection.
Wendell Berry Just one of my favorite poems by Wendell Berry, pretty much everything i've read of his (poetry/essays/fiction/non-fiction) is pure gold. A man i have learned to have a great deal of respect and admiration for. Plus hes a kickass farmer who still holds true to the sustainable, pre-hydrocarbon "green" revolution way of food production, and can tear logical holes in anyones argument that the monoculture mass produced food production system we live under is anything but a unusutainable and destructive joke. Nature will put us in our place if we don't listen to people like him, though it will be painful and messy. "let those who have talked to the elves, find each other and band together" -TMK
In a society in which nearly everybody is dominated by somebody else's mind or by a disembodied mind, it becomes increasingly difficult to learn the truth about the activities of governments and corporations, about the quality or value of products, or about the health of one's own place and economy. In such a society, also, our private economies will depend less upon the private ownership of real, usable property, and more upon property that is institutional and abstract, beyond individual control, such as money, insurance policies, certificates of deposit, stocks, etc. And as our private economies become more abstract, the mutual, free helps and pleasures of family and community life will be supplanted by a kind of displaced citizenship and by commerce with impersonal and self-interested suppliers... The great enemy of freedom is the alignment of political power with wealth. This alignment destroys the commonwealth - that is, the natural wealth of localities and the local economies of household, neighborhood, and community - and so destroys democracy, of which the commonwealth is the foundation and practical means.” - Wendell Berry

Quotes over time get warped and paraphrased to suit whoever is using them so for that reason I will not attribute these quotes and some may wind up paraphrased as I feel the words are always more important than who said them. "We are not enemies but friends, we must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break the bonds of our affection. The mystic chords of memory will swell when again touched as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature." "I don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows." "Life is short and if you're looking for extension, with your time you had best do well, cause there's good deeds and there is good intentions and they're as far apart as heaven and hell." "The thing about the edge is, the only ones who know where it is are those who have gone over." "How fortunate for leaders that men do not think." "No one knows the meaning of life, we all just have a piece of the puzzle and do the best we can." "True bliss is found treading the wavy line between Yin and Yang, not tossing and turning between the light and dark but realizing that beauty is found in the dusk and dawn before its snuffed out by a singular shade." "Change is coming through my shadow." "You better free your mind instead." "Remember what the dormouse said. Feed your head." "Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Here’s Tom with the weather."
