THC has a boiling point of 200°C (392°F). However before the THC boils, other parts of the oil evaporate and boil.

Here are some important temperatures: At 21°C (70°F) the most volatile terpenoids start to evaporate, lending a pungent odor to the air.

At 31°C (87°F) the less volatile terpenoids start to evaporate, lending the air even more pungent odors.

At 39°C (102°F ) virtually all of the terpenoids undergo evaporation fairly rapidly.

At 50°C (122°F) THC-Acid decarboxylates as the water molecule held in the carbonate form evaporates. This activates the THC.

At 66°C (150°F) Cannabidiol (CBD) melts and starts to evaporate.

At 185°C (365°F) Cannibinol (CBN) boils.

At 200°C (392°F) THC boils. Clear vapor from a vaporizer.

Just info.

Razzeace:

So if this is true, than maybe if weed were to be baked in the oven at more 122°F,but less than 150°F, all those pungent odors would evaporate, and then later when you smoke a joint of that weed it wouldn't smell like weed and then people out on the street won't know its weed. They'll think its tobacco.

...but would this really work?

I agree, seems like a waste. The smell and flavor are part of the experience.

Why not just go off somewhere out of the way and toke in private?
Images of broken light,
Which dance before me like a million eyes,
They call me on and on...

Wouldn't that make your kitchen smell a lot?

You could try it as a sort of experiment, but I somehow doubt this is viable. If you do try it let us know how it goes though.

I would be interested too, not for practical purposes but I like the thinking, it gives me a little more insight into 'the way things work', where I have some gaps in my knowledge. Thanks for the temperature overview.

So let us know if you're trying. And by the way, eating would be an alternative that leaves no odor.

Speaking of which, a cake is baked at some 180c, so a lot of these terpines would be gone also from cannabis prepared this way, or am I mistaken and are they somehow trapped inside such a cake?

And if not, if one smoked the cake, would it still smell? Big grin

Or make hashish and smoke that while burning some incense, preferably pure from a bong or vaporizer. Without incense it will smell deliciously spicey (not DMT like but like a cloud of various spices). It can still be smelled but is way less pungent and dissipates much quicker. I usually don't smell it anymore after 10 minutes, even after leaving the room and returning.

However, there are other ways. You could purchase a carbon filter for a bong for instance and smoke through that. It will remove most of the smell from the smoke. But, read this thread on grasscity.com on carbon filters and how to use them safely. You need to wash them well or there's a risk of inhaling tiny particles so you might want to think about that very deeply. You could smoke through a double or triple percolated bong to filter out any of those but no idea if that's efficient.

This sounds like a really nice way to ruin your herb. Taking all the other cannabinoids out of your bud is no bueno.
“The most compelling insight of that day was that this awesome recall had been brought about by a fraction of a gram of a white solid, but that in no way whatsoever could it be argued that these memories had been contained within the white solid. Everything I had recognized came from the depths of my memory and my psyche. I understood that our entire universe is contained in the mind and the spirit. We may choose not to find access to it, we may even deny its existence, but it is indeed there inside us, and there are chemicals that can catalyze its availability.”

Fermenting would be a way to kill odor too i think. Or making hash oil and purging it at a high temperature.
Everything is always okay in the end, if it's not, then it's not the end.

THC boils at 180* C. IMO it would be stupid to decompose the weed before smoking, first of all because you don't know all the factors involved. There are much more chemicals into weed than terpenoids and THC, CBD, CBN.

Also from the 5 terpenes in cannabis, one is highly psychoactive so it would be a waste to lose.

If you want to play with the smell/flavor do it in the dry-cure-store stage Smile

Back in that days I went to school I even wantet no one have an idea of what I was smokin in the breaks. Best way to manage that was to do an honeybee extraction via butan, then dissolve the residue in IPA and spray that solution on some tobacco. Then you can just roll a cigaret (I always used a paper tip as filter, even in "normal" cigaretts) and get high without anyone gets an idea of it. You can even dip your filter a few times in a thin solution, but that seems to be more wasteful.

You can always just pack a 1 Hit and hold it in. Zero it out so you don't blow out any smoke. Not really hard 2 do, and not so bad if you only do it once in a while.

or blow it out a cardboard tube (a la toilet paper) with a dryer sheet rubber banded across the end

Why would someone want to do this unless they were insecure about the laws that govern them?
Do you get a cheap thrill from breaking the law or do you just wonder why they exist like i do?
That makes me want to change things.
