Hey guys this is my first post and I really want to connect with some like-minded people who have experienced the effects of DMT. My first and only experience was pretty life changing and it still blows my mind to this day what I seen and felt during my trip. But something more obscure and harder to explain has happened to me since my first DMT experience.

One Friday night I decided not to go out and drink and instead I stayed up late and played video games all night. I went to bed around Midnight and woke up at like 4 am. I can't specifically remember any of the dreams that I had in this span on time. I was bored and kind of had a pot problem so I went downstairs and took a GB hit of pot. I was pretty high and decided that I know would be able to fall back asleep with ease with this added sense of euphoria. I drifted off into a deep sleep and started to fall into a REM sleep.

MY DREAM: I was dreaming that I was at this party and was talking to some kid that I felt weird being around. He kinda made me feel a little uncomfortable talking to him and I started to wonder where I was and why was I talking to him. That when I remembered that I had actually stayed home this Friday night and that I wasn't actually at a party but I was laying in bed sleeping. I suppose that I would consider this a lucid dream. As I realized that I was actually dreaming the image of this weird kid started fading away and I no longer could see anything except darkness. It was basically like I had my eyes closed and I wasn't able to see anything with my eyes and I also wasn't able to see anything in my mind (my dream).

OUT OF BODY EXPERIENCE: I almost feel like I woke up at this point but I still was laying down with my eyes closed and still would consider myself sleeping. My sense of touch then "woke up" and I could feel my every inch of my entire body laying in my bed. My mind then put an image in my head where I was floating above my body and I could actually see my body laying in my bed. This really freaked me out and I decided that I didn't want to experience this strange occurrence anymore and I attempted to wake myself up. I attempted to wake myself up in the same way that I would wake myself up from a bad dream.

WAKING UP: I then attempted to wake myself up by sitting up from my laying position except my body didn't move an inch and it felt as if I was paralyzed and I couldn't move. This freaked me out even more and I tried again with all my might to wake myself up. Now the strangest part of this whole occurrence is that as I was attempting to wake myself up from my dream, my body contracted three times before I finally woke up from this strange altered consciousness. Let me explain more about these three contractions. It wasn't really like I was having a seizure because I feel like my body didn't even move but it was more like something happened in my brain/mind. Perhaps my brain was busy pumping serotonin or DMT into my body and my brain wasn't chemically ready for to snap out of my dream.

NATURAL DMT TRIP: Now in my awakened state I was kinda in shock as to what had just happened. I determined that I was having a lucid dream and that I forced myself to wake up except I wasn't able to wake myself up right away. I feel like this was a very similar euphoric feeling similar to my DMT trip. I felt the sense of the out of body experience. Finally, I closed my eyes (this part I'm a little unsure of but I swear that this is what happened) and I was able to put images in my head and see colors. What I was seeing reminded me of what I had seen after I had smoked DMT. It then faded away in the same way that my smoked DMT experience had. Was this a NATURAL DMT TRIP??? Was I in a deep REM sleep and my brain was pumping the natural chemical of DMT into my brain? And once I was able to snap out of this dream was I experiencing similar euphoric effects in an awakened state similar to what happens when you smoke DMT?

CONCLUSION: I'm pretty certain that what I experienced is proof that DMT is a natural chemical that flows through your brain every single night when you fall asleep and dream. I am posting this on here so that I can get some comments from other like-minded people that have experienced the incredible effects of DMT. These effects are so incredible that I really think that I don't ever want to smoke this substance again because I feel that it could ultimately make you go insane. Even though I really want to attempt to dig deeper into my mind I am afraid of this and would much rather live life in REALITY. Thank you for reading and please let me know what you mind travelers think of this?

BTW I forgot to mention that this experience isn't my own and when I say "I", I am actually referring to someone I know. I have never tried any illicit illegal drugs and don't recommend anyone to try these.

Hi, Psilosweet

I have something in common with you, but it's not DMT. I haven't had that experience, so I might be a good "control" for the experiences you describe. Or my suggestions might be entirely useless. Whichever way you look at it.

Seeing bright colors in swirls or geometric patterns with closed eyes is an experience a lot of people have without DMT. I'm one of them. I get that when I'm falling asleep, or often when I'm meditating. It's called hypnagogic hallucinations. Very beautiful, and sometimes they come with a "lucid" benefit--you feel like you're participating in their creeation, because they go where you want them to go and do what you want them to do.
This generally happens before you fall asleep. When I'm meditating, I try to not control them and they tend to become more consistent and less squirmy.

I also have auditory experiences with them, such as music, half-sentences or phrases. Sometimes complete sentences seem very pertient to the issues I may be subconsciously working out in my dreams.

There's another wierd experience some people have when they're waking up. It's called a hypnopompic hallucination. Feelings of paralysis usually accompany this type of phenomenon.

As far as I know, there isn't a lot of conclusive research on the neurochemistry of these events, probably because they tend to be very unpredictable.

Sorry I don't have more definite answers, but I'm including a link for you to look over.

Sweet Dreams!

No one really proved DMT is produced or released during dreams, check out the thread on that. But your altered conscious state is very interesting, not sure what could have provoked it.
We are surprisingly similar.

Thank you for your replies Philosopher and OneofTwo! I have never heard of this hypnopompic hallucination and I will definitely do some research into it. I also am aware that it hasn't been proven that DMT is released during dreams but after my DMT experiences I believe that this very well could be true. But then again the brain is such a complex system that it would be unwise to conclude that DMT is the actual chemical that your brain produces when in reality there could be endless possibilities of molecular compounds being produced while dreaming.

I haven't really explored the realms of meditating but have plans to look into this soon. Dreams have really been fascinating me lately and I really want to dwell deep into a different consciousness that results when meditating. I'm going to research hypnopompic hallucinations and if anyone else has any input please post as much as you know about my experience. I'd really like to develop a better understanding of what happened that night because I feel as if I have experienced something that many people have not experienced (including people who have had DMT experiences). Thanks for reading guys!

After researching these new terms I believe that what I have experienced is definitely hypnopompic which explains the transitional state between sleeping and awakening. I also believe that the contractions I have explained are sleep paralysis where they have explained this to be vibrations right before you wake up. I'm kind of getting a little freaked out reading about all this stuff but I don't believe that my body was possessed or I was being abducted by aliens so I'm trying to treat this new information as a new sense of understanding of my body.

I use to have night terrors as a child where I would sleep walk, throw myself into walls, and scream bloody murder. I am happy that I don't do this anymore as I grew out of it but I feel that I may be a person who isn't an ordinary dreamer.

I also feel that after researching these terms that I believe that this transitional state of consciousness was not induced by smoking DMT. But my question is whether or not the intense mindfuck that comes with smoking DMT was a shock to my mind (I was a little freaked out when it was happening) in the same way that this hypnopompic state of consciousness had me. Once again thank you for your input. My next journey is to explore meditation and see what positive things I can receive from it.

Realized I was dreaming again recently and woke myself up. I heard some pretty crazy sounds...almost like kids were playing in another room. This would really creep me out and make me think I was going crazy if I wasnt aware of hypnopompic hallucinations.

Your experience does sound like sleep paralysis. I used to get those more often, and I haven't for a while, but I did get one just the other day. Same as you, I realize I'm dreaming, then I think I'm awake, but it turns out I'm just really vividly dreaming myself laying in bed. Trying to sit up is futile, calling for results in no sounds. So I was laying face down in my pillow, and I heard this angelic tone as I began to float weightlessly out of my body. I tried to resist and yell, and I would come back in my body cause I thought I was dying, and wasn't quite ready for that....nevertheless that tone and feeling of being pulled out of my body felt so seductive and alluring, that even though I didn't wanna die, I sorta did wanna experience that so as I would be pulled back into my body, I would release all the tensions in my body again causing that tone to come back and for me to start to float up out of my body. I'm glad I don't get these too much anymore. They can be scary and frustrating. Most often they occur as dreams within dreams, so when I go to wake up from one and I think I'm awake, and sometimes I can even get up and walk around my house...look in the mirror...it's all so real. One time I woke up out of my dream and I was in my old house that I haven't lived in for years, but it was so real. It's a very strange experience indeed.
