Do you experience a hangover after ingesting psychedelics? Most people say the don't, but I do.

This get's me thinking, what is the cause of the hangover if it isn't the interaction of the plant chemicals with the body?

Last weekend I did ayahuasca. Yesterday I felt the hangover a bit, but still felt good. Today I feel total hangover and all the good vibes have vanished.

I don't think this is due to the plant. Or my diet, at least as far I can see. But what can it be?

Anyway, I am interested to know if and how you people experience possible hangover after psychedelics...

I hardly ever feel a physical hangover from psychedelics, but sometimes I'll feel a bit out of wack emotionally for a week or two after the DMT afterglow wears off. Was your trip particularly taxing or intense? Perhaps your body is going through some type of positive change/process brought on by the ayahuasca?

A hangover the morning after taking a large dose of harmalas is not that uncommon. It is not like an alcohol hangover though..it is a feeling of exhaustion and sometime you can still have tracers even with nausea. It is not the toxic feeling of alochol hangovers.

If you did not feel that at all the day after, but did on the third day than I dunno if it can be related to the ayahuasca. Maybe you just stayed up really late on the ayahuasca and the sleep dep caught up with you now.

It's usually a case of fatigue and dehydration.

Me and a friend once session'd 2g's of 20x 1:1 changa and I had the worst headache for about 2 days, then I took 400mg ibuprofen and it cleared right up.

I always make sure to eat lots of fruit and drink lots of water if the substance permits, then its a case of getting a good nights sleep.

Ayahuasca is one of the few psychedelics that i always feel amazing the days after, perhaps the opposite of a hangover.

But physically do very often get a little worn out from how taxing ayahuasca can be on the body.

The good vibes cant last forever and how you feel could be due to many things, but I always found it best to live as healthy and keep your diet as healthy as possible days prior to and following a journey.

Interesting to read what you guys think. I personally believe it doesn't have to be this way. Meaning, having bad mood and feeling a slight headache.

First of all we had a very nice trip. I did work in it, there were things I wanted to pay attention to and find answers. Ayahuasca is a reliable teacher and I am grateful for that.

Thing was that I live in this appartment were there is such an awful vibe. What I come across almost daily is neighbours fighting each other. There isn't a single night no one knocks on the walls or metal conduits. This thing is like a dungeon.

Anyway when I got home sunday I was laying down on my couch and thinking like wow I feel really okay and too bad it has to be like this here. All of a sudden someone starts banging the walls like crazy. Like a gorilla rattling the bars of his cage. Wow I can tell you that kicks in. So that's how I got the hangover.

I find it you're vulnerable after ayahuasca or other psychedelics for these kinds of vibes. Yesterday my mood was pitch black, I wanted to do the very same those crazy gorillas are doing every day. Instead I made this topic Smile

Think I want to share this,... I didn't understand why I had this crazy bouncing back everytime I did psychedelics. But now I do. It doesn't have to be, it's just the enviroment you're coming back to afterwards.

After my most recent mushroom trip I felt very removed from reality for about a day afterward. It was almost like I was still 'tripping,' the way I was seeing things seemed derealized and I personally felt dissociated and depersonalized.

Not really a bad feeling, but I can imagine that it could be concerning if you weren't expecting it.

Id go bang on your neighbours door and tell them to shut the frak up personally..and complain to your landlord. Did you sign a lease? Cus if the landlord does nothing the lease is broken. I cant deal with inconciderate neighbours like that..which is one reason why I dont want to live in an apartment again. I cant tell you how many times I had to verbally argue with people outside in the alleyway drunkenly screaming or yell at neighbours for banging around and partying at 3am..

It is the worst trip environment on top of it already being annoying while sober.

It could definitely be just the heightened awareness of your neighbours but it could
also be as pointed out related to blood sugar, diet, sleeping patterns etc.
Personally I get that kind of frustrated feeling when after coffee stimulation. Did you have any
kind of stimulant in the brew or maybe after?
If you've had say coffee and perhaps your sensitive to stimulants (a lot of people are without having reflected
on it), the heightened awareness can magnify that stimulant "come down".

It can also be related to what your doing the days after.
Where you lying a long time in the bed instead of getting up?
Where you watching tv or playing videogames instead of going for a walk in the park?

I think it's good to rest one day before going back to ordinary (read work, stress etc) activities.
One can feel a bit worn out (although with a good mood), depersonalised etc.
It's good to have a day of reflection in a meditative setting.

What i recommend that I do the day/days after:
The day after (mostly sundays) I like to water my plants, listen to jazz (read music if it suits you better) and clean the apartment.
Museums and art galleries are also excellent for the psychedelic mind and are also very often free/low cost enjoyments.
Painting or playing music is also very nice...or just being creative in general.

just get a pair of good speakers , download some forest trance , and play it loud

forest trance has the potential to scare neighbours for good , my neighbours think i am crazy and never even knock at my door or anything , just play forest trance 24x7 and while you're at it check out phobos azazel ,

also forest trance and Ayahuasca is awesome

I can relate to the neighbor thing. I am used to living in the woods, no neighbors for a long distance and nothing but the wind and birds. For the last year though, I have been living in the city. I have to play music to journey, the last thing I want to hear is a emergency siren or screaming neighbors when I am blasting off.

My neighbor makes really weird sounds, I have no idea what it's about. I think he might be cheering for himself as he plays a video game but he may be doing illicit things to a cow, it's anyone's guess. It is an awful moaning sound though. It really bothers me.

As for hangovers, if I do a night dose of something long lasting I will be exhausted the next day. Usually though, I feel pretty refreshed after a good trip, sometimes for days. Totally agree with the part about staying hydrated, especially if you have been consuming something that involves puking.
Images of broken light,
Which dance before me like a million eyes,
They call me on and on...

Usually I put on Pygmy music when things get too loud. This works very well. And when the mood is really pitch black I just dance my room clean of bad vibes.

I only live here because I had no other choice (except going back to my parents) at the time. It's run be a corporation and they don't give a thing about whatever. Their rules allow people to behave bad here.

Reminds of this buddhist or zen saying about the horse and the whipmaster: One bad horse never does anything, even if you whip it all the time. One other bad horse starts running like crazy if the master only extends his hand toward the whip. The good horse here start moving just before the whip would hit him, so effectively avoiding the strike.

Basically this translates to being active all the time. When it feels like going out for the park, no hesitation etc (and yes no videogames for most of the time). This should also diminish any kind of hangover. I feel okay now and the ayahuasca feeling is there.

The only downside is you have to live like a virtuous guy. Else the whip will hit you time and time again. The question is, what does this tell about who I am that this situation is my home?

Anyway, next time I won't have a hangover. Besides dietary possinilities, it's all about coming down without crashing into something. Like a plane touching down on a clear runway, if there's debris the plane will get damaged.

I've recently obtained MHRB for the first time and made a lot of ayahuasca to experiment with (syrian rue tea and mimosa tea treated with the egg tek) I tripped four times in about a week. The refreshing feel from ayahuasca is always there, yet I think that the more I used it the more headachy I felt afterward. I think the syrian rue tea in particular must do this, because the last trip I did I drank it twice in an attempt to come back up. Didn't really work and I just felt more headachy than usual the next day.

I think part of the problem is also the way I get feverish when on ayahuasca. I've tried to always counteract it by not reaching for a blanket and dressing light. It makes the voyage a little less comfortable, but your body isn't supposed to get that hot. I also wonder if there are substances that are not dmt or maoi's in ayahuasca that cause a "hangover" that overcomes the refreshing quality of DMT?

I've never felt a hangover from smoking pure DMT. Smoking Pasiflora, which has MAOI's does give me a headache. Obviously, you have to be really careful with your diet before and after taking MAOI's in order to avoid headaches. I hope that in the future more careful dieting will avoid the headaches.

Responding to the noisy neighbor thing: my first ayahuasca trip was done on metropolitan italian beach during a festival. There was a discoteca next door. I took a dosage 3g syrian rue tea followed 30 minutes later by a 5g mimosa tea. The trip was kind of awful and I threw up an hour in. I know they say throwing up is ok, but later when I was at home I took a 3g mimosa tea, never threw up and tripped harder. After throwing up on the beach I got some pretty good closed eye visuals, but was far to stressed with all the noise going on. In the morning however, I felt no hangover, but felt refreshed. It was sort of a purgatory that I went through, and in many senses I'm glad I went through it. My point is that stressful environments will certainly make the trip more uncomfortable, but that doesn't necessarily mean you'll feel bad afterwards.
