I just learned about this and after seeing what's screened out I don't think ill ever skip this step again.

Very simple! Just dissolve your bho into ethanol or acetone, and throw into the freezer. Undesirable crap will precipitate out of the solution and you can filter it out. Ill post a pic of what it looks like finished in a bit, but first here are the waxes and junk you can filter out with this method.

The bho is called a concrete or oleoresin, and after filtering it is an absolute. You can google it for more info lots of it out there but I figured I'd share it with you guys here in case you haven't tried it!

Yuk, that looks gross. Very interested to see the finished product. Perhaps your could post an image of the starting product looked like as well so we can see all the stages. I sure do love me some good BHO. Thanks!

Hey Mitakuye! This is definitely the cleanest oil I've smoked. It strips some flavor but if done with fresh
bud or trim it will remain very flavorful.

Damn, those photos gave me a stiffy. BHO porn. Are you using Everclear for the ethanol?

Wow these pictures are absolutely incredible, I feel greatly honoured to have seen such mastery and beauty. The glistening sheen in the photographs is pretty much unmatched, I would really love to nibble on some...

Haha thanks guys I'll throw up a couple more shots tomorrow. I was thrilled when I had read that acetone works just as well if not better than ethanol. It has a lower boiling point, and the waxes precipitate faster in acetone. Plus it's easier to get and cheaper! It's a win win win win.

Water bath? You mean like water hash? No you must start with bho. Though I'm sure you can clean up your dry sift or bubble hash with this method too the results will be much different.

Oh OK I see now. To try it out I did use some old wax that was collecting dust. These pics though are from a run I did the other day and was vacuum purged just enough to break it off and throw in the jar with acetone. No reason to spend a lot of time purging when you are just going to dissolve it again into another solvent. All the butane will purge when you get rid of the acetone or ethanol.

Nice. Which one do you prefer acetone or ethanol? And what is the ratio you use?

Good idea! Never thought I'd try to evap the impurities out. This will be really helpful and very appreciated.

I love this im heading to get more acetone now Smile

Be careful though I was told by someone that acetone is supposed to be a more carcinogenic chemical and also much more flammable also is was widely used in cocaine production so be careful when purchasing in large amounts it could potentially be flagged

Enjoy your BHO

Acetone has been studied extensively and is generally recognized to have low acute and chronic toxicity if ingested and/or inhaled...

Acetone can be found as an ingredient in a variety of consumer products ranging from cosmetics to processed and unprocessed foods. Acetone has been rated as a GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) substance when present in beverages, baked foods, desserts, and preserves at concentrations ranging from 5 to 8 mg/L. Additionally, a joint U.S-European study found that acetone’s "health hazards are slight."

Carcinogenicity: EPA in 1995 concluded, "There is currently no evidence to suggest a concern for carcinogenicity". (EPCRA Review, described in Section 3.3). NTP scientists have recommended against chronic toxicity/carcinogenicity testing of acetone because "the prechronic studies only demonstrated a very mild toxic response at very high doses in rodents".

Acetone is easier to get and cheaper so that's what I'll be using. Ratio is not important just don't be shy with it because if it's too thick you'll lose oil to the filter.

Awesome thank you for the reply. And glad to see the person I know was wrong about acetones carcinogenic properties

How are you evaping your acetone? Vacuum purge? Or just evap in dish letting air dry?

Not that it really matters but this is essentially the technique used in the industry to get very high potency extracts. It is a process called "winterization". It is reccomended to be done at about -20*C for 48 hours. Aka cold freezer for two days. Works with denatured ethanol as well. Typically it is performed on supercritical CO2 extractions however BHO will certainly suffice. Cheers, lovely work!

Thanks I forgot the term. I would not recommend to use denatured alcohol though because it's not easy getting all solvent out of a thick oil. Some of the poison in denatured alcohol have really high boiling points and you'd ruin your oil trying to get it all out.
