Hey! Recently, a program called weavesilk was brought to my attention; it has inspired me to try another program with, let's say, more depth!

If any of you know of a program that you can download for free that allows you to create various abstract and psychedelic arts that would be amazing!

I want something with depth but doesn't take forever to learn!

If you have any suggestions throw a link at me and I will surely check it out!

Thanks so much for reading!

You could give deviant art's Muro a try. It's an online art program with quite a bit of tools, some of which are quite trippy. You'd have to make an account, but that's quick and easy. The site is deviantart.com

I made an account (turned out I already had one) but I can't seem to locate Muro.

This is a fun little program:

We have chosen this life for a reason, and it is our purpose to understand why.

When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced; live your life so that when you pass, the world cries and you rejoice.

Only those who are willing to go too far can possibly find out how far one can go.

DeDao,

If you're wanting images from the silk site, or any image from your computer screen you can use this tool (on windows 7)

Start->Accessories->Snipping tool

Play around with it, it's super easy. I use it constantly!

It's not very deep, but I can see how it could be useful as an adjunct. Fun too.

Edit: Threw in an old sculpted bust. Now it looks like 99.999% of the visionary art out there.

Art, that is great! Nice control for such a limited drawing tool. Did you make that face in the same tool, or is it a composite? Thumbs up

No. Sculpted in ZBrush. It's an old one, along with the female bust. And the Silk doodle is a PS composite of several.

I could definitely see using this for some specific things, like making smoke trails and flames for ZBrush pieces, for instance. It's just hard to imagine using it as a stand alone tool and coming up with something that looks different from everyone else using it.

It's all very pretty though. And mucho psychedelic.

We are seeing more and more of this kind of thing- apps that produce a lot of visual pizazz with very little effort or need for traditional drawing skills. On the one hand, this empowers more people to become creative... But it also vastly alters the wheat/chaff ratio, if y'all follow me. A lot of visually impressive art without much depth- exactly what I think DeDao was hinting at. Hard to create a distinct style in this medium that stands out from everyone else's work.

The answer isn't to be found in any one app, I believe, but in developing a relationship with your art and your artistic process. The deeper that relationship, the deeper the art. This need not require a lifetime of drawing- I've seen plenty of artists go from being dabblers to being seriously impressive in just a few years. You may find yourself using a number of programs for different parts of each project... You'll find your own method, a unique combination that fits you perfectly. There is no single right solution to this- it's an ongoing process of experimentation.

On a more nuts-and-bolts level, you'll want Photoshop. That's where you bring everything together.
