This isn't just a feature on this website, but it is one that I find interesting and it is pretty common here.

Due to the inherent illegal nature of some subjects on this website many members feel the need to obfuscate their identity further than the anonymity of an Internet Avatar. What I mean by that is those members who constantly use SWIM (someone who isnt me) to describe events or those who have a tag behind their messages that say something to the extent of "this is merely the rambling of an insane person, not to be taken seriously" or "the events described are entirely fictitious", ect.

Most of the time I find these things quite silly at best, and at worst overtly paranoid which could be (in some people) the sign of some minor (or major) psychological issues. I do understand that the subject matter can evoke a state of paranoia, Ive been there before.

That being said words are not crimes whether typed or spoken, and I don't think that there is any watchdog focusing on the Internet chatter of a forum for the purposes of making arrests. Thats not to say that I don't think this website is being watched. I would be surprised if it wasn't (especially by the DEA). That being said what is needed for an arrest is evidence, hard evidence. Therefore a case would never be built against someone based on what they said over the Internet. So saying SWIM or not is a useless paranoid gesture IMHO. Because let's face it, if you were talking about large drug deals and buys over the Internet do you think the DEA would go "Oh well he used SWIM, so I guess he can't be doing anything", that's just silly.

Also lets face it, this is the Internet it's huge and my close friends don't call me Psychelectric (we do use pseudonyms for a reason), they call me by my name, which is Ryan (or is it? hmm Wink, kidding, it's Ryan) for those curious. Either way it takes time and effort to chase leads and an Internet form isn't the best place to start. Either way just sharing my thoughts on this. Happy to hear what others think. Peace

people here aren't paranoid enough IMO. They must not realize that the DMT-Nexus is run by the illuminati, as evidenced by the hack in april 2011 that revealed their secret "elite dawgz chillout and trade area" where the mods readily engaged in pineal trafficking, satanic rituals, and goat porn.. among other horrendous things

I'm pretty sure using anonimity isn't a sign of some psychological issues, no matter how far they go whether it be using swim in their dialogue or having a sig that declares what they say as being fictional. People don't want to get in trouble, some take different measures than others, usually due to the fact they don't know how the law man would use this information.

Anything illegal on your computer can be used as evidence to further prosecute you. If you get busted for extracting or possessing an illegal drug and they take your computer and find you have posted on forums about your grow or possessions, they can use that against you, whether you say swim or not. Is this common? No not really but it is possible.

Saying swim or "my pet walrus's brothers tumor" does nothing to protect you. But it's def not a sign of some psychological disorder taking place... So says the ghost of a turtle I used to knows friend of an uncle of mine I've never had.

Not true Wink

One word: Conspiracy.
Two words: Reasonable suspicion.

"Hard evidence" is actually far from what is needed to arrest someone. Hard evidence is what is needed to convict someone (and even then it's not always the case...in fact, many times it's not).

Political activists have been arrested for both "thought crimes" and as a result of government entrapment. Activists in the PNW are being subpoenaed for grand juries despite committing no crimes. These grand juries are being convened to find out who they know/interact with, what they're reading, what their interests are...when they refuse to cooperate, they wind up in in jail (it has been acknowledged that they have committed no crimes).

There are also numerous drug war cases where people have been locked up without evidence, locked up based solely on the word of a police informant, locked up based on the actions of dirty cops...the list goes on and on. Not things that should be ignored. Caution β‰  paranoia.

Haha. Sorry I didn't really realize this was such a common topic. Sorry I do have a tendency towards more aggressive language, a bad habit of mine, which I am trying to work on. Due to the vitriol of sarcasm and misunderstandings, which I blame mysrlf I realize I may not have been clear enough. Yes paranoia can be healthy. And protecting ones identity is what we all should do here. I never meant to imply that people should reveal more about themselves at all. The only reason I listed my name was to show how not worried I am about it as I think I made my reasons clear (sort of) in my initial post.

Likewise I didn't mean to imply that people who use SWIM or other "this is not me" statements are a nudge away from paranoid schizophrenia. I do think it is unnecessary given the fact that we all use pseudonyms. It seems like overkill to me. And the "this is not me" statements I do find quite humorous.

Also yes embarrassingly I did use arrest when I should have talked about convictions. Regardless I don't think the authorities are going to arrest me for a trip report posted online.

The reason I made this post was just because I've been noticing this a lot. And that just may have been my perspective. Ill do a mor thorough search for topics in the future before I post. Big grin
