I need a good video recorder. I am currently working on some 30 minute educational videos and the fist camcorder I purchased was a POS. I come well versed in the software aspect but I need some advice on the hardware part. I was in hopes someone here would know more than I in this regard.

What recorder can I get between 500-100 dollars that would suffice in recording high quality videos with user friendly playing high upon the list?

And for the record no, I am not doing porn, thought crossed my mind but I am too goofy looking to pull it off. It's engineering instructional videos. I want the quality, focus and detail to be as high as possible but things like recording time will not be a major issue as it will be shot just 5-20 minutes per scene.

This year I bought a new camera for video.
I would consider a DSLR Camera with HD-Video modes.
A Panasonic Lumix GH2 with an additional lens is a very good choice.

the best price : performance you can get would be the $400-500 GH2 with a decent lens. You'll have to learn about how to use it, though. Manual focus is a must.
