I think we should be careful with being too judgmental about this being a troll or not.
What the original poster demonstrated was behavior that most people exhibit when it comes to drugs and the consumption of them. The Nexus promotes doing research on a substance before consuming it, but the majority of the population doesn't research anything. A very good friend of mine, with an academic background, dosed herself on various occasions high doses of Saint John's Wort or 5-HTP without even researching what the effects were. She just heard it would make her happy due to the effects on serotonin. Not knowing that St. John's wort can cause photo sensitivity or that taking large doses of 5-HTP will cause the user to become drowsy.
Many people depend on information they got second or third hand, trust it's good enough and use that as a basis for their next actions. It's quite possible this kid just heard Jimson Weed is amazing and just ate a whole bunch of seeds because he never thought he could die from taking these substances. A lot of people don't realize that plants can be toxic too, especially if these plants are used by shamans for ritual purposes.
Don't underestimate how much people view drugs.
