Hi all.

Got a silly question to ask but does anyone know where the term "trip" or "tripping" came from?

I like the idea that it came from the word "tryptamine" but I have a feeling I might be wrong.

Cheers

My friend suggests that it means journey as well. I'm trying to find out if when term was first used in the past coincides with the discovery of tryptamines.

I know this thread might seem pointless but me and my mate have had some friendly banter today over it. And you guys know a lot more than me about the subject.

This thread reminds me of a time being on acid camping and going to get wood in the dark and tripping over something. "I'm tripping while tripping!" I said. lol Very happy Was so much more funny at the time

The term "trip" used in the context of psychedelics was started by scientists in the US Army Chemical Corps to describe an LSD session (Lee, Shlain 1994).

The term trip comes from the fact that under the effect of psychedelics you just cannot help bumping onto other objects and tripping over, occasionally injuring yourself in which case a trip to the emergency room might be necessary.

Actually I believe 'trip' means "Saint Diego"
