Hello fellow Nexians,

I post here in the hope that someone knows some good plants to help liver recovery. My mother just went into the hospital the other day and it turns out she has cirrhosis.

So far I found these:

Chelidonium

The main alkaloid present in the herb and root is coptisine. Other alkaloids present include methyl 2'-(7,8-dihydrosanguinarine-8-yl)acetate, allocryptopine,[2] stylopine, protopine, norchelidonine, berberine, chelidonine, sanguinarine, chelerythrine,[3] and 8-hydroxydihydrosanguinarine.[4] Sanguinarine is particularly toxic with anl LD50 of 18 mg per kg body weight (IP in rats).[5] Caffeic acid derivatives are also present.

Milk thistle seed extract

Many years of research show the active flavanoid-lignan (flavanolignan) group of constituents, called silymarin, contained only in the seed shell has liver-protective and regenerative properties, as well as antioxidant effects. The liver-protective effects were known and written about in ancient times, leading to the active chemical, pharmacological, and safety research beginning in Germany in the 1950s. Clinical use for a variety of liver ailments, such as hepatitis, has also prospered throughout many parts of the world.

I bought an extract from Milk Thistle seeds, a tincture - and I think it is a good start.
I'd like to know more about silymarin and if it can cause any damage to other organs - if anyone has some information it would be welcomed.

I am 4000 km away from her, and my biggest concern is that she will not try them or won't trust to use them even with the medication the doctor gave her.

Take care everyone, stay safe!

Raw Cannabis is a dietary essential for those over 40y/o. It is the main source of CBD, the strongest anti-oxidant availble to man-kind.

The liver digests Fats, which are very important. Include Hemp seed oil at the least in her diet.

I recall reading that the herb Muna is good for the old liver.
I have some Muna in the press although I have never tried it nor do I even know how to consume it.
I hope your mother has a speedy recovery Smile

Do you have any reliable sources for this? And also to what context is this meant?

Kind regards,

Hi there, sorry to hear about your mother.

The best thing she could do (in my opinion, this was taught to me by a herbalist) would be to add raw organic carrot and spinach juice to her diet, ideally 2 litres a day and also balance her PH with apple cider vinegar and / or bicarb of soda.

2 great books to read...

The ph miracle
http://www.amazon.com/Ph...id=1358902323&sr=1-1

and one by the late great "DR N.W. walker" Fresh Vegetable and Fruit Juice

http://www.amazon.com/Fr...id=1358902218&sr=1-1

if she literally balanced her ph and really added some quality raw veg juices to her diet regularly and if she is drinking, stop drinking, I believe it would really help her out and she could make a full recovery!!

I have seen a friend with gilberts syndrome ( Gilbert's syndrome - wikipedia ) fully recover just by doing the above, on the advice of the same herbalist, so his advice imparted by me, comes as partially tried and tested.

wishing her the best, sending good vibes!

peace

Milk thistle is an excellent herb to give for a compromised liver, and as far as I know it does not cause any damage to other body organs or systems.

Abuta and Erva Tostao are a couple Amazonian herbs that are also very good for the liver, some info on them in the links below:
http://www.rain-tree.com/abuta.htm#.UP9mxPL4KSo
http://www.rain-tree.com...atostao.htm#.UP9m5fL4KSo

Adaptogens or anything high in antioxidants would be great. Medicinal mushrooms like reishi or chaga, for example. Schizandra berries are also fantastic, they help get toxins out of the liver and then also helps cleanse them out of the blood.

A lot of the time, the liver dumps toxins emulsified into bile salts, but then the bile salts can be reabsorbed in the intestines and the liver then has to deal with these toxins all over again. Eating mucilaginous foods while taking liver cleansing herbs (chia seed is one of the best) can help the bile salts make it out of the body in the feces.

If she has cirrhosis of the liver, and you are giving her alcohol-based tinctures, it might be best to put the tincture into warm water before she drinks it, so most of the alcohol can evaporate off.

Hopefully some of that helps!

Thanks everyone for your replies.

The milk thistle tincture is stored in vegetal glycerin, no alcohol allowed Smile

The main reason she got cirrhosis is because she worked in a restaurant for a long time in front of a barbecue and such, preparing meat and she was breathing the toxic fumes for years. A lot of the fat in the smoke got into her system. She is doing better now, still a few days till she can check out of the hospital. Thank you all for the good vibes.

Blesses !

Thank you infinitynlove !

She got checked out of the hospital today faster than I hoped Smile

Waiting a few days for the Chelidonium tea to arrive and I'm gonna send her a package with them both.

Peace Smile
