Jarl Von Hoother wrote:hmm... computers are cool to use the internet with or video games but as an instrument to make music... it sucks as it lacks a human soul personally I'd rather listen to something that has a soul than something that does not techno = grabage rock n roll kicks ass... As always maybe you just haven't heard Pink floyd, led zeppelin, the doors, niel young, Van halen, megadeth, the rolling stones, blue oyster cult, metallica, the allman brothers band, jimi hendrix, simon and garfunkle, bruce springsteen, bob marley, nirvana, modest mouse, incubus, the john trio band, michael hedges, andy mckee, vistor wooten ... try classical music even or raga you might as well just be listening to justin beiber okay it's just not music without soul Thank you Actually, I love rock, it was my first passion. Jim Morrison is something of a personal hero to me. I'm slightly upset that you seemed to assume I love only electronic music, which could not be farther from the truth, I love all music. I see it as a beautiful, humanistic expression of the patterns we observe in day to day life, each production being a unique view into the mind or collective mind of the group that created it. I choose to create my vision electronically. Though this might not appeal to all fans of music, I feel that it is the best representation of not only my artistic expression, but also my abilities as an artist. As to the soul of music. I cannot talk for other electronic artist, because I am not them, but for myself I can say this: If you honestly feel that the music that I have created has no soul, then I am sorry. I am not being sarcastic, snide, or by any means trying to convey a message other than that I am truly sorry. I have failed both you and myself. This music is again the culmination of my abilities. I have poured years of practice and sacrifice into this medium and I am still not good enough. For this, I am sorry. But I will get better and I will continue to practice until one day I can produce a series of sounds beautiful enough that even you, a person who feels that my medium has no soul, cannot deny its worth as an artistic expression, the impact it could cause in the minds of others, and its embodiment of that ever-so-intangible 'soul.'

lol @ electronic music not having a soul! sounds like someone needs to blast some tipper on good headphones in the dark next dip into the hyper-ether Nathanial.Dread wrote:I eat fire And do magic at birthday parties and things. sweet! my friends a really good magician too. blows my mind even sober how magicians can do what they do. we're always just baffled after we see new tricks. the comedy inter-weaved into the act is great to, and essential

A guitar doesn't have a soul either, the person playing it does. You pointed out the Doors who used a lot of electronic keyboards. An electronic keyboard is a purely electronic device that has no soul, but when Ray Manzarek played it, it was infused with soul. I would say that an electric guitar played through multiple pedals and electronic amplifiers is also an electronic device.
I don't think it matters if the instrument you play is made out of wood or metal or diodes and transistors. Does a metal flute have a soul? Of course it doesn't, but when a human plays it, the music created does.
What about a book? Written on a typewriter? I would argue that a book is a technology that brings you directly into the mind of the author, even across centuries of time. But that book can be written with a soul-less machine, but the story certainly has a soul.
I feel sorry that you are closed minded and think electronic music has no soul. A human being that puts their heart and soul and tears and hard work into a creative enterprise that has the power to move literally millions of people, and you can't see the soul in it. Led Zeppelin and Tool are great bands. Have you ever seen how much studio work goes into creating an album? There is so much computing and electronics used it is incredible. More hours go into the electronic aspect than the playing aspect. Even at a live concert for Zeppelin or any rock band, there is literally a crew of dozens of people setting up the electronics for that soulful music to reach tens of thousands of pairs of ears. Danny Carey of tool uses a partially electronic drum set. I dare you to tell me his drumming doesn't have soul.
To the OP, nice job on the music, nice bass lines!

OP - Please disregard the rude dismissal and keep plugging away. The world is full of bitter assholes who will gleefully tear you down.
