Any reason to not use a metal bowl for Q21's tek? Options

The good glass bowl broke, and all there is is a solid steel bowl. It's a better container, too. Steeper and more conductive to heat.

Could one still work with a metal bowl, or would vinegar/lime react adversely to it?

Thanks for any input.

anything above ph 9.5 passivates the steel and prevents oxidization (corrosion). there appears to be no reaction between lime and steel, and steel should be able to handle vinegar (that is, after all, why we use steel pots for aya, no?).

so you should be good on that, however i do not see steel (outside of stainless) in any limonene compatibility charts but i do see this:
Quote:
Stainless steel tanks are best for storage. Steel drums should have an epoxy/phenolic liner
seemingly implying steel isn't quite suitable..
which is weird because stainless, aluminum, copper, brass, bronze, gold, silver, zinc, and platinum are all acceptable metals.

it might be fine for limonene (i would wait for someone more knowledgeable to chime in) but it will definitely be fine for the base mixture (especially for the duration of an extraction).

if you are doing q21q21's tek with a vegetable oil (a la hippie salad oil) this is a non-issue.

Thank you. I wouldn't be using limonene, so as long as vinegar/lime is okay that'd be great.

the only problem i've had with steel is that alkaloids can creep up the side of the dish and collect on the edges... then again, this does provide some great stuff to smoalk Twisted Evil
