It's really hard for me to say which is particularly so in my case as whenever I consume ayahuasca, I always end up smoking DMT throughout the experience anyway. My aya experiences usually last a while (4-8 hours) and as a result of its highly immobilizing tendencies, it requires that I have a good deal of stamina. I'm not a big fan of the nausea. If I can purge and get rid of it, I'm a happy camper. If not, it's an extremely unfortunate dimension to the experience.
With vaped DMT on the other hand much less is mentally required. No matter how the experience goes, it's gonna be 5-10 (15 rarely) minutes and then it's gonna be over. I know some people have a hard time integrating such short experiences, but to me the concision can help with the understanding. There's also something I like about the purity of DMT visuals without any harmalas in the mix. For me, harmalas create larger, a bit more rounded, geometries like macrovision. There's just something about that pure aesthetic of DMT freebase that I'm really a fan of. I also like the instantaneous onset. Even when you vape DMT on harmalas, the onset is delayed by about 15-30 seconds, and even then I find myself getting a bit antsy. For my own personal taste, I prefer to become enveloped while I'm still holding in my first hit.
