Hi Nexus,

I have a lot of bottles with prior extraction lye gunk that are waiting to be discarded. I dont want to just throw them away in the bottles. I tried neutralizing with vinegar, but the ratio is too crazy: it would mean buying around 10L to neutralize my ~5L, maybe even more.

My method was like this: i filled my bathtub about a third with water and acidify it, control via pH Strips and then slowly add lye untill pH is OK for the sink. But as i said, with this method one needs a looot of vinegar.

So for extraction i also ordered citric acid, i tried the method with a small portion (citric-acidified water in the tub and lye in there) and noticed that the ratio is way more convenient. BUT i am worried for what could happen on the chemical molecular level, so i would like to ask you about information on this particular issue. So
is it ok to 1. neutralize lye with citric acid and 2. to drain that stuff down the sink? (Please remember i take very good care and use lots of ph paper Neutral )

My Second question regards the gunk that migrates to naphtha when sitting longer than (in my experience) 30-45 minutes. Especially the last pull that one sometimes let sit overnight. Into my naphtha migrated quite a lot of fat and gunk, which i am sure most ppl here know.

I tried the usual method which works quite fine, re-x. The gunk sticks to the glass quite nice, especially if you use naphtha at 30-40° (Obvious: NO FLAMES!). And heres my BUT again: i feel that there is still DMT in that gunk. I know that fresh naphtha does not pull jungle alkaloids,
so i would like to ask if someone has developed a comfy way of 'milking' the remaining mass when doing a re-x on gunk-naphtha

Thanks in advance brothers and sisters, much appreciated

When you neutralize citric acid with sodium hydroxide, you will end up with sodium citrate. Sodium citrate is harmless and often used in the food industry, so it will be fine to dispose of down the drain.

Neutralzing your sodium hydroxide is the responsible thing to do. Smile
