where did you test your mdma? The lab should be able to tell you what technique they used, what kind of substances they can detect, etc.
Its impossible to say what the other 16% were (and if the 84% are really as said) unless some more info is given. If they used UV photospectrometry after first testing with chromatography for other compounds , they would have probably made the calibration with MDMA HCl so the 16% would not be from the HCl ion.
Here´s a link that may be of interest, its the results of mdma analysis in the basque country, with the impurities found. Technique used is chromatography separation followed by NMR, so it´s very accurate:
http://www.ailaket.com/?s=MDMAAs you can see, a lot of the MDMA is found with calcium sulphate, which would not be toxic to consume since its used in food products like tofu as coagulant. Im unsure if its added just for adding bulk weight (like sacarose or lactose are), or if it´s some byproduct of the synthesis (I´d have thought hydrochloride salts would be more likely since most MDMA AFAIK is in HCl form), but anyways that by itself wouldnt be a problem.
Not to make you paranoid but as you can see, even seemingly very pure MDMA (92%) can have toxic products such as the sample in that list which contains ethylene glycol, though in the amounts found it will probably not really be toxic since according to wiki, lowest lethal dose was 700+mg per kg and if it only composes 2% of a 100mg dose, then youd only be getting 2mg of it, a lot less. Other things can be found in some street MDMA like paracetamol and caffeine (would increase speedy effects, tachycardia,
hyperthermia and general long term toxicity of MDMA)
You can always anyways try to clean up a bit your MDMA like mentioned by purges, which would get rid of some solvent traces and some other possibly unwanted things but it would not really get rid of the calcium sulphate as mentioend above since it would be insoluble in acetone and such AFAIK.
Lastly, please make sure the analysis you did made sure its really MDMA, because at times other products have been found in place of MDMA. I alreadfy made a thread once about how in europe there was a wave of meth being sold as MDMA (I think it started from a mistranslation issue since ´crystal´ is the word used to mean MDMA in some places in europe while in USA its mostly meaning crystal meth). Meth has a much lower dosage and you´d get some serious issues by mistaking one for the other. Simple marquis test would tell them appart. Sometimes DXM is also sold for MDMA, and its easier to mistake them with marquis (check my signature thread), but with mecke you can tell them appart since dxm turns yellow.
