Hi, I was wandering why Full Members don't have some fancy pictures also

I mean every single rank here on Nexus had got one but full members. Even new members have nice little flower there

I would like to see more icons there though. Things like nationality or gender would be nice.

I'm against it because it creates unnecessary hierarchies and does nothing but strike ones ego. The whole reason for these icons is to give you an idea on whom to rely more on advice, who has special skills etc. Someone who is a doctor like CC is obviously more suited to give out biomedical advice. New members have the little plant so full members know who needs help.

Why would regular members need an icon?
(You could even argue about the need for Senior Member icons)

Nationality and Gender icons? No disrespect, but please..no. Gender is so fluid ...and nationality? Why do we need to support the idea of nationstates? If you decide to be here longer, you'll know who's a girl, a boy or ..a transsexual for that matter. You'll also learn who resides where in many cases.

What reason would there be to wear this as a badge ?

I mean it's interesting that we have members from say Iran and also a growing number of females.... but that's about it. I love hearing a female perspective or look at colorful pictures of trippy mosques but that's all.

I agree to your points about gender and nationality. I wouldn'T want it either.

However I don't see any problem with hierarchies tbh, as long as they are friendly... In martial arts for example you have very clear hierarchies and this helps you discern who knows the ropes and who can give you good advice etc. though it's no guarantee of course. The same applies here.

I'm not for or against an extra symbol, I don't really care. Because whether there is one or not, it implies the same "rank". The lack of the symbol has the same place in the hierarchy as would the symbol.

I'm also neither for nor against. I think if someone came up with an idea for a full member icon that was clever and made a lot of sense, Traveler might be persuaded.

I actually had an idea for this! There are many folks here who aren't primarily into DMT. So, I was thinking maybe we could have a few different icons for full members to choose from, like say a mushroom, a caapi vine, a mimosa tree, a bicycle (for LSD), maybe a GVG and so on.

I would have a mushroom, since that is where most of my psychedelic experience lies, in eating and growing.

My original idea was more of an "expert in" what ever subject. So, I was hoping with my mushroom knowledge I could have a mushroom, so when I comment on people's mushroom threads they can be confident in the information I give them.

Either way, it might be cool to have maybe five "full member" icons to choose from.

We could have a like system, the more likes, the bigger the flower, until eventually it grows into a little entity which is always evolving and morphing into different dimensions and times until it dissapears and pops out of the centre of your head creating a 'third eye', so to speak.

Trav could knock that up in a couple of minutes, right?


Seriously though, in reference to Mr.Peadbody's suggestion, it would be useful to attach skills to people who obviously know their stuff but aren't a mod or senior member.

I think being able to have a symbol according to what your experience is with different psychadelics would be useful. If you have grown mushrooms or extracted DMT it would make sense that you have a symbol showing that. Like cyb, vodsel, q21q21 would obviously have an icon showing they have experience with extractions.

A mushroom, cactus, and something for DMT would be a good indicator when reading replies to your help me thread if that person is recognized as knowing their stuff. I would also think there would need to be some sort of system in place in order to properly appoint such an icon to a member. I have only extracted a few times and have limited knowledge on extraction, but I know the q21 process fairly well. But would I be qualified? Some sort of qualification would need to be in place to determine that.

Perhaps you could vote for "experience in x" in the same way you can now vote to free a member from the constraints of the Welcome area? E.G +1 Mushroom expertise +1 extraction expertise

...and after say 100 positive votes one would get a speciality icon indicating his knowledge?

I'd put the treshhold real high so only REALLY active and knowledgable people would recieve such an icon. I would also prevent the nexus turning into some sort of myspace anno 2001.

That's actually a good idea. With it that high people who are only active in short spurts wouldn't be noticed enough and those that actively participate would be more likely to receive the icon.

I find this idea actually quite fun and good. Just like the chemistry icons this would give a bit of further distinctions as to who is knowledgeable in certain fields.

I think things like this will/can be also integrated with the further development of the entheogenic university e-learning system, which is currently waiting for the OHT contribution to become finalized. But yeah, if done intelligently I'm all for it.

University test scores could also count for votes. Take the Acid Test and get 10 Votes ...do you mean something like that ?

First of all lets have icon for anyone who gets full membership which is why I created this thread. This is DMT - nexus so as Anrchy mentioned already maybe little nice symbol of DMT molecule would be nice.

I also like Mr.Peabodys idea about being able to chose from few icons as he mentioned. I am sure it would not be a problem for our artistic members to make some beautiful icons for us.

I was thinking about icons for experts like for example thinking of Gibran2 i see this beautiful salvia plant next to his name or caapi vine next to Jamies , but I think this would involve much more work.

The question is: would The Traveler support any of these ideas ?
